Does anyone have ideas for tolerable preparations which cause less bloating and nausea? I've tried Moviprep, Kleenprep and Plenvu, They all caused nausea, with Plenvu causing the most nausea. The surveillance nurse has suggested Pikolax, but looking at the reviews of this product, it has less effectiveness at clearing the bowel. Any suggestions?

Also, is it better, when preparing for colonoscopy, to fast for a few days before the bowel prep?

  •   instead of fasting for a few days I took senna to clear myself out before the prep.  I did moviprep lemon - absolutely horrible but I drank it very cold and with squash added to make it more palatable.
    Good luck

  • Thanks Lee, I have heard that there are preps using tablets instead of fluids, but my team don't use them, only the bowel prep using fluids. Did you get nauseated with the Moviprep?

  •   I haven’t heard of the tablets.  I wasn’t too nauseous as I would hold my nose, gulp it down and give myself a reward.  I rewarded quickly with a macadamia nut (go with a small bit of whatever you love), the saltiness seemed to bring me out feeling sick.   The prep is way worse than the colonoscopy, especially if you have the light anaesthetic.

  • I've had Moveiprep, Picolax and Plenvu in that order for my initial colonoscopy after a positive poo test, for surgery and for my 1 year follow up colonoscopy (last weekend).

I seem to remember the Picolax as being the least unpleasant (more a matter of taste than anything). I'm a bit unclear why my hospital trust keep changing their choice of laxative - in the event the Plenvu wasn't as effective as the Movieprep as there was still some contents on the wall of my intestine in places when I was scoped and the doctor reckoned I would need to have my next follow up after one year rather than two as she couldn't be sure she had found everything. As it is they have removed 4 small polyps. I'm still waiting on the biopsy results.
