My dad has secondary bowel cancer which has spread quite a bit, he's had chemo which lasted for 2 weeks at a time for months, he's tried 3 different types of chemo and nothing has worked, he's starting to have a lot more pain now.
The consultant has now suggested for him to have radiotherapy, has anyone had this before and it's worked better than chemo?
Hi Charm welcome to the forum and sorry to hear what's happening for you all..Radiotherapy is often used as a way to alleviate pain and works differently to chemo. It has been known to be very successful in reducing pain so hopefully this will help. Best wishes.Gail
Thankyou very much , that's good to know that it helps with pain , cancer is such a cruel disease
Hi Charm I had a rectal tumour and radiotherapy is often used to shrink the tumour before surgery. I had 5 weeks of Monday to Friday radiotherapy alongside a low dose of chemo in tablet form ( which apparently enhances the effect of the radiotherapy) My tumour shrank from 4cm to 1cm which also stopped the bleeding and thin stools. Really hope this has a similar effect for your dad
Take care
