Hi
I’m just coming to the end of CAPOX round 3 of 4 and looking for advice on how people ease the mouth side effects.
I don’t have ulcers but my mouth is red with pimples, has a permanent burnt sensation and feels constantly dry, which is made worse by drinking fluid.
I have a mouthwash prescribed by the consultant but it drys my mouth out even more so makes it worse.
I have bought oralieve jel which gives short term relief but I’m hoping people have experience of something that gives longer term relief?
To everyone going through chemo and everyone supporting someone through chemo, you’ve got this!
Thanks in advance.
My husband had similar when he was on Folfiri and Cetumabix for 2 years.
He was prescribed various mouth wash that just didn’t have any effect at all, but found the best remedy that worked for him was simple salt water rinses a few times a day.
All the best
hi SJP524
I had a weird prickly, pins and needles tongue sensation and some small ulcers after my first cycle. I’m now using a Corsodyl toothpaste that is sodium bicarbonate based once a day (or you could use a salt or sodium bicarbonate rinse after you usual toothpaste)and the usual sensodye in the morning. I use coconut oil before bed - you have to stick a lump in, let it melt then swish it through your teeth for around a minute before spitting out. It coats your mouth overnight which helps stop it drying out.
I’m on my 2nd cycle and it’s improved considerably.
Good luck
Lee
