How long after meeting surgeon did people have to wait for their operation?
Hi,
I had a colonoscopy 23rd Jan last year which set the alarms going followed by a CT scan on the 8th Feb(24). It all seemed to go quiet until the 21st Feb(24) when I had my meeting to discuss what was planned. After that there were a few more appointments with the anaesthetist and one where I had to sit on a cycle machine and pedal until I couldn’t do anymore! Then I think I got about a week’s notice and chop chop day was the 6th of March (24). So two weeks.
i imagine it varies depending on how busy a particular NHS trust is.
How long has it been for you?

We’re looking at about 8 weeks as husband was sent to a specialist hospital. Met with them end of jan. He has his pre-op fitness thing and another meeting with surgeon next week and we’ve been told the opp would be end of March/early April. They wanted to do some fresh scans and get him as fit as possible before the surgery, so that as well as availability meant waiting a bit longer. The waiting’s hard but as it’s a big opp it’s good to have the time for him to get as fit and healthy as possible.
Yes, fitness is important and I think it was that which helped me get back on my feet quickly. So that’s probably four to six weeks. That’s a good amount of time to significantly improve his fitness. I don’t mean enter a triathlon , but any improvement will stand him in good stead.
I wish you both all the best.
Hi Rosie,
I think I was the exception rather than the rule. I had tummy ache and was advised to go to A and E on August 31st last year. They did a CT scan and on 1st September I was told it could be cancer. 4th September colonoscopy confirmed it. Met surgeon on the 8th September and had a right hemicolectomy on Friday 13th September. No symptoms at all and turned out to be Stage 3, EMVI and 2/44 lymph nodes.
Start back at work week after next. These folks are wizards!
Hope you don’t have to wait xxx
Nic
Hi Rosie,
I have just met my consultant surgeon this morning. He confirmed the biopsy and CAT scan results. He is very supportive and is doing another colonoscopy on Friday in preparation for my operation. The operation will be in March. He is optimistic about the outcome.
It is 3 weeks today that the original colonoscopy took place.
I found the waiting period very difficult and everyone advised me that I would feel better once there was a plan in place. They were right. I am thankful for all the comfort and support from family, friends and especially from this forum.
Wishing you well on your journey. X
