I am booked for my colonoscopy today after positive FIT and low iron levels. I am so worried. Haven’t slept or ate for 3 weeks almost. Feel terrible and just not even sure if I can go through with it. Feel like waking up this morning is the beginning of the end. I am really thinking the worst and have a beautiful little boy to think of. X

  •   You absolutely must go! You are making yourself ill by worrying about something that you might not need to be worried about. Someone posted recently that they’d had a clear colonoscopy after a FIT reading of over 400?
You say it feels like the beginning of the end and you’re correct - it’s the beginning of the end to not knowing what is causing your issues. If the colonoscopy finds something - and there’s other things that can be found apart from cancer - then you’ll know what you’re dealing with. If nothing is found then it’s another investigative box ticked off.

Think of your little boy and go for the colonoscopy please?

Take care and let us know how you get on?

    Karen x

  • Karen thank you so much for replying. I have been up since 4am just reading through the forums, some positive stuff and some negative which my anxiety is holding onto and I can see how you have so kindly replied to so many comments. Thank you for taking the time.

i am going to go for my little boy but i am expecting the worst news and just not sure how we will deal with it. I have huge health anxiety as it is x

  • Good  I’m glad you’re going and we’ll deal with the next step after the colonoscopy? Remember that a lot of people leave the board once they’ve been told that there has been nothing found or don’t update a post? Either way whatever the outcome we shall deal with it.

Take a deep breath and keep thinking about your little boy - you can do this x

  • You can absolutely do this - deep breaths. The drs and nurses will guide you through every step of the way xx

  • Thank you Karen. I will update as soon as I can, how long do I expect to be in for the process today? X

  • I may be able to help answer this - the colonoscopy usually only lasts 30-45 mins I would say. I had a lovely chat with one of the nurses prior to the procedure. She will explain everything to you and prep you ready in case you would like sedation (I had this).

I could see mine taking place on the screen in front of me so any anomalies the dr will be able to share with you. You will receive a written report to take home after your procedure including any follow up that may be needed.

i hope that helps. I am having a second colonoscopy next Friday

  • Thank you. My main worry is seeing and hearing what’s going on - how much sedation did you have? Also how quick can I leave after? My husband is taking me
I am pleased that you have a date for your second colonoscopy, what was the reason for the second if you don’t mind me asking.

  • Hi  I could hear what they were saying and I watched on screen but they can turn it away from you if you prefer? Tell them how anxious you’re feeling and they may be able to give you a bit more sedation - enough for you to be awake but dreamy and not really aware of what’s going on?
Afterwards they’ll take you somewhere to come round a bit and have a cup of tea and a bit of something to eat. You’ll then see a nurse to get the results and a copy of any action taken. I think my husband went for a coffee somewhere and I rang him when I was ready? x

  • Ok thanks Karen. Gosh I am so so worried, this is definitely the worst day of my life. I need to remember why I am doing it.
I am so grateful for the support from this group x

  • I hope all has gone well for you today?

unfortunately my health is deteriorating and my endoscopy and colonoscopy report (although no biopsy results yet) say no indication of cancer.

I am fortunate enough to be able to have a private PET scan and the procedures repeated in London next week following advice from another gastroenterologist.

results back next day. NHS biopsy’s will take 8 weeks I have been advised. This may be different depending on your hospital.
