Hi to all out there! I feel like I have lived on this bloody computer since my Dad got diagnosed 2mths ago!  We live in New Zealand, and are trying to get a grip of what is going on and would love to here of positive stories from anyone else going through the same thing!

My Dad has always been a fit and healthy man.  He was concerned with a lump he felt in his tummy... after testing we found out this was liver mets from advanced colon cancer!  He has been tender in his tummy, but not in pain at all.  He started chemo 2 cycles ago, with xeloda tabs and oxaliplatin.  I am worried that living in little old New Zealand that my DAD may not be getting the best treatment, that there maybe better things out there!  He is a fit man and has a better appetite than he has ever had, so we are hoping all of these factors will make him respond well to the treatment.    I would love to hear from you all x

Hi Court. How lovely to hear from you again and yes I was Jash all those years ago. Very strange how this has popped up in my emails after such along time.   I am so pleased to hear about your mum and how she has managed to get to 80 next year. Also Mandy 1958 and Terry having those extra years.
it was 10 years in September since we lost Alex, he was only 53. He was 9 years older than me and it’s now strange that I am older than he was.
your memory is great as yes it was with 2 boys. They are now 25 and their dad would be so proud of them. We have had a few ups and downs but on the whole not too bad.

life has moved on and I just take each day as it comes.
    take care xxx

So sorry for your loss, Jash.
I think someone found our old conversation and that’s why it’s flashed up for us all. Brings it all back, doesn’t it?

Terry was only 52 at the time, he’d have been 64 now. He used his extra time to do all sorts of things, including cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End towards the end of a years course of chemo. He raised a fair bit of money for Cancer Research, whilst doing it. And managed to get on the telly!

When he started cycling again, after his bowel op, as he found running uncomfortable with his bag, I used to think of Ann (AnnFran) and Nev, I remember her saying that Nev used to go out cycling as a way of dealing with the stress of it all.

    Funny old thing, life.

Sending all of you good wishes Kissing heart

  • What an incredible human being Terry was . How utterly selfless was he to raise money when he was enduring so much ! That was quite an accomplishment and as a society it does our hearts good to see such integrity and compassion! So glad he made it onto the TV !
Annfran was another wonderful poster ! I am taken aback at how much we remember of each other’s lives ! I had two boys younger than yours and used to love hearing of your holidays and family time ! Meaningful connections !

I think Nev used to go out cycling with his chemo pack still attached! Another lady came home to find her husband up ladders cleaning the gutters straight after chemo ! It not only strengthen our family but taught us how to live life in the face of a difficult diagnosis!

you must have been exhausted too! Nine years is priceless but I know I got to 35 scans and lost count of the times I propped up waiting room walls stomach clenched and my smile firmly fixed in place . But we do it because we love them !
The last time I heard from Annfran she was finding a way through . She had joined a drama group and it was giving her some company and direction !
I miss you all but it’s been really lovely to reconnect and reflect , lots of sadness but meaningful too !

    Take special care ,

Huge Hello Jimbobs - you’ve refreshed a beautiful thread of conversation - hi Court, Mandy1958, abs Jash1958!.

jimbobs - sounds like you are having really tough time with symptoms and chemo.  Do you have a good oncologist you can chat too?    You want to make sure you are having the best balancing act of treatment and quality of life as you say.  Chemo can be rough, but can also put cancer in the back burner so you can get on and do things.  Can I be rude and ask how old you are?   Not that that makes a lot of difference - but also nice getting a picture of who you are talking too.  I hope you have a good network of support - and love to hear how you are going.   Down days can be followed with brilliance - so keep that spark up snd keep smiling x

As court has mentioned this thread is 11yeara old, and treatments many have changed (for the better!) maybe a better thread for treatments for you, though know you’ll get a lot of support here xox

(court think if you fondly too x)

my loveky friends who helped us all go through this journey together - I often think of you all xox and also Annfran.     My Dads been gone now for over 10 Years - miss him still x.   These  conversations were strengthening in talking to others going through the same things.

    Xxxxx

  • Hello

How is life treating you ? It’s been so lovely to see all your names pop up again !

Your dad was special and I am sure you still miss him very mum !

It was such a support at the time ! Quite a lot of views over the years when you see the numbers at the side of the post so hopefully others benefited too!

Mum is now participating in a trial for long term survivors where they are looking to see if she has a protein on her tumour sample which caused her body to identify it as a virus !

Hope there is a piece of the jigsaw in that trial !

    Take care ,
