Hesitating to post this as I think it’s something maybe doesn’t get discussed often, and it’s pretty yucky - only I can’t find anything online.
My husband has terminal bowel cancer. With mets to lungs and lymph.
He has an ileostomy.
Today there have been three episodes of almost black, foul-smelling stuff from his rectum. Quite a lot of it. He isn’t in any pain from this. But is generally weak. The nurse I spoke to didn’t seem surprised or unduly worried.
Does anyone know anything/ can shed any light on what and why??
I've just seen that I can post an image - but probably better not to (although I do have photos!)

You might want to have a read of this as it goes into details about what colour it should or should not be .
You might want to exclude bleeding .
Our helpline staff would be happy to chat to you on 0808 808 0000 . There is also a colostomy helpline on the link above .
We also have a nurse you can ask questions to . I can link that in if you might find it helpful .

Hi DaisyD22
So pleased he is getting the proper attention .
Hope he gets the help he needs . It’s so hard to know if something is entirely normal or not and often lands in the hands of the family to push a bit .
But sounds as though he is getting help .
Well done you, your instincts were right .
Take care ,
