Feeling really heartbroken my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer with spread to lungs in August 2022 he was originally told uncurable and unoperable but after 9 months of chemo and 5 weeks of radio we finally got told in July 2023 that surgery might be possible as he'd responded well to treatment after many scans tests and 2nd opinions he had his 1st lung resection Jan 13th 2024 we thought it had all gone well untill this Tuesday we went to see the surgeon to be told when they opened him up they noticed his lymph nodes looked larger than they should be and took a sample the results had came back that cancer is now in his lymph nodes in his chest/lungs and he cant have anymore surgery basically were back to square one after having a glimmer of hope! I dont think i will ever get over my husbands face he froze it was absolutely devastating. We saw his oncologist Friday and they've offered him chemo again but hes refused! Is there any point getting a 2nd opinion from a private doctor? We just feel so let down there was no urgency with his care he had a broncoscopy in october that showed his lymph nodes were clear. We were told his cancers aggressive so why aren't they acting aggressively i just dont want to loose him its his birthday next week he will be 42 and we have 3 young children together. I just wish we could wake up from this nightmare
Hi GemD84
I am so sorry to read your post . I so clearly remember my mum’s face when something similar occurred. It was crushing . She did go back to treatment after that but she did need some time to find her feet .
I think a second opinion is a very good idea but suggest it matters who you consult with . You want to know who is ahead of the game .
Can I suggest you join bowel cancer U.K. as they have a FB page and you could possibly find out who others have gotten second opinions from .
Getting as much information together can help make a more informed decision.
It might even be good to know what research is coming through .
Take care ,
Court
