I had a right hemicolectomy in 2021 and my check up colonoscopy in May this year was clear. I went ahead and booked a holiday to Australia and should be leaving next Saturday.
I haven't been feeling well and thought it was an increase in my thyroid tablets to blame. I went to the doctor's and was gutted when he said it is probably iron deficiency anemia. I'm hoping to get results of blood test on Monday but I'm worried that it could be cancer recurring. With my trip so near, I'm worried that I'll be sent for more tests and my travel insurers will cancel my policy because of lack of diagnosis. I have already declared anemia as I had iron tablets after my surgery.
Has anyone else had a problem with anemia so long after hemicolectomy? Is it possible that it's due to malabsorption of iron because of the shorter colon? I'm clutching at straws because I so want to visit my daughter and she'll be so upset it I can't go.

Hi Drama
I have had a quick look at the research and it does seem to be an issue with colon surgery .
They will be used to this and try and sort it out for you.
I sincerely hope it does not impact your holiday .
Enjoy every minute of it .
