Hi everyone

I'm Steph from the Community team Slight smile

Here is a new thread for carers, family and friends. This is a space for you to chat, share experiences and support each other through issues related to your loved ones bowel cancer.  The previous thread will shortly be locked as it was getting rather long which can make it difficult to navigate.

Please remember that we also have other dedicated spaces on the Community for carers, family and friends. These spaces exist so you can support each other away from members of the forum who might be dealing with their own cancer diagnosis:

Family and friends forum

Carers only forum

Supporting someone with incurable cancer forum

You would be welcome to set up another new thread like this in one of the above forums. Please just let us know if you would like any help?

We hope you will continue to find lots of support from each other and the Community. We're here to help, so please do let us know if you have any questions or support needs by emailing us at community@macmillan.org.uk

  • Well he had his chemo this morning, then got a phone call about seeing the colorectal and stoma surgeon, which is completely unexpected as they were concentrating on his liver. We are both shocked at this. The only good thing is that our best friend is the team lead in theatres for colorectal and will let us know what she is like. They are using the new robot as well. He also said he is not having a stoma. Talk about being mixed up, now I am really worried and I know it has turned Les upside down.

    hugs to everyone xx

  • Crikey all this waiting and wondering whats  gonna happen next is awful for you both!! So is to be an operation next, he is doing so well having all the chemo, you must be past yourself!!

  • Hi Maggie poor Les has been through so much with his 14 sessions of Chemo you need to know Why you are seeing a colorectal surgeon what is going on with the bowel your head must be all mixed up you will feel better when you have some answers sending you hugs xxx

  • Helen we have no idea it is a chat with the colorectal surgeon  and it is the first we have heard about it as his liver MRI is not until the 17 and then off to see the colorectal surgeon not the liver specialist. We are completely stumped by all this to be honest. At first they said his liver was more important and the mri was going to the freeman for consideration and discussion.  Now this. My palpitations are worse than ever not even letting up for one minute. He won’t let me ring our friend either to find out more information about this lady as she knows all the surgeons here. Gosh I am past myself. He seems okay after chemo today though apart from the phone call  that has made him more blinking anxious. I hope you are okay and blood pressure is managing to come down a little bit.

    big hugs to all xx

  • Jkee he did ask on the phone but it was only the secretary.  He only saw the oncologist consultant yesterday and she did not mention anything apart from the mri of the liver would be discussed at the freeman after his mri on 17. We are absolutely devastated as we were concentrating on his liver. I hope you get better news about Simon sending hugs your way too xx

  • Sometimes the not knowing is the worst and your mind goes into overdrive and you think the worst!!

Had pharmacist on the phone and have to take another tablet, this time at night and more blood tests and pressure tests to see if it helps. Didnt help her telling Me about risk of strokes and heart attacks but hey ho will do as I’m told and have to drink more water for kidneys with this new tablet!

Hugs to everyone and have a good weekend if you can

  • It is worse not know but only have to wait until next Wednesday. My blood pressure was okay last time I took it. I am going to start mindfulness again 20 minutes each day. You should try it as it calms everything but takes about 2 weeks before it works. I used to do it all the time but must start again to help me sort out my head.  Yes it can cause strokes and heart attacks. I have high cholesterol which runs in the family so taking a tablet for that but not a statin.  Just make sure you take care xx

  • I don't know either Maggie! Not had a great week this week they seem to crop up every now and then. Some days I just find myself shouting at Jay `why did you leave me to deal with all this`? when really it was something he couldn't control himself. Think it's the January `slump` also January is quite a bleak month for most people I think with the Christmas bills coming in etc for me I feel it's more prominent now Jay is not here I just see the year stretching out in front of me and just so unsure of what lies ahead. Just need to take it a day at a time. As long as I have wee granddaughter to keep me going that will be fine. Had to pick her up at nursery last week as William was on backshift and Nicole got held up at work so `granny to the rescue`. She just runs to you now when she sees you shouting `granny` and your heart just melts. And then they have the worry of Nicole's mum who is still in hospital for the foreseeable. Start my bereavement support sessions this Monday so hopefully they will help. Take Care Everyone.

  • I know exactly how you feel, I hate this life and want my old one back even though I know it can’t happen. Paul collapsed this morning so had to rush up to his at 7am but think it’s under control now!
I’m home now and trying to chill

  • Helen and Vicki I really feel for you.  Helen one day at a time and the same for you to vicki. As you know we don’t see ours very often with Les and his immune system.  I can’t imagine what you are both feeling but I know you know how Jkee and I feel.  January is always a downer especially with the cold weather as it does not want to make you feel you want to go out. please look after yourselves as it is important that you do. Sending hugs and love to you all xx
