Hi everyone

I'm Steph from the Community team Slight smile

Here is a new thread for carers, family and friends. This is a space for you to chat, share experiences and support each other through issues related to your loved ones bowel cancer.  The previous thread will shortly be locked as it was getting rather long which can make it difficult to navigate.

Please remember that we also have other dedicated spaces on the Community for carers, family and friends. These spaces exist so you can support each other away from members of the forum who might be dealing with their own cancer diagnosis:

Family and friends forum

Carers only forum

Supporting someone with incurable cancer forum

You would be welcome to set up another new thread like this in one of the above forums. Please just let us know if you would like any help?

We hope you will continue to find lots of support from each other and the Community. We're here to help, so please do let us know if you have any questions or support needs by emailing us at community@macmillan.org.uk

  • Hi CxO,

sorry, we’ve not experienced that, it’s been pins and needles in hands and feet for my husband. He’s tired too and had hip pain but not leg weakness as such. Is this listed as a side effect of his medication? Is this why he is no longer having chemo?

  • Thanks for your reply scarlett.
He has liver mets and was borderline operable so they said he was only having 4 rounds.
Hes on Capox. He has tingly fingers and jaw pain when he bit anything but this round his legs are weak and when he stands he feels like they are going to give way. x

  • That sounds rough but the tingling is entirely normal, as is the fatigue. Maybe speak to his oncology team about the weakness in his legs. I hope the chemo has done what it should and he has a successful operation xx

  • Hi Everyone!

How are we all doing. Hope you are all bearing up ok. Maggie as I've said before, just leave you head in the shed until it's ready to come back out again and get some rest if possible.  One week today my tummy will be doing somersaults again. My sister goes for her scan next Friday (12th July) so it's not too long to wait. She has to go to get an injection of that radioactive fluid they put into you to highlight the parts of your insides they want to look at first she goes for that in the morning and then in the afternoon goes for the actual scan there is a wait time between getting the injection and the scan of 3 hours. The ironic thing is that next Friday is a year to the day we had Jay's funeral the way it falls. Trying to make light of things as Margaret has to go to the nuclear imaging unit in the hospital so I said she will glow in the dark after having it doneBlush. It's at out local hospital as well so not to far to go and to save us from hanging around the hospital we can go back home for some lunch before she goes for her scan that is of course they say we can do that. Thinking of you all as always. Take Care.

    Vicky xx

  • Hi Vicky I really don’t know how you cope going back and forth to the hospital. Fingers crossed it is nothing and we will all be thinking of you and Margaret next Friday. Head is staying in the shed and as you say I will bring it out when ready. He has been for a walk but psychologically he goes to the loo at 7 and when he can’t he gets anxious. He Wii eventually realise that his bowel habits will change but gosh his pumps absolutely stink. Need to get some more air fresheners so at least if anyone comes it smells better.  Will be thinking of you. You take care xx

  • The Oncology helpline said it is just fatigue from the chemo and he should be ok in a couple of weeks. Thankyou for your replies though x

  • That’s good, you must feel so relieved xx

  • Well just had a phone call from surgeons secretary to go this Monday to see her. Here we go again. This rollercoaster just keeps going.  What a long weekend this is going to be. I really did not expect the phone call as the secretary said they had the MDT yesterday. This does not look good.

    big hugs to everyone xxx

  • Oh, I’m sorry this has happened on a Friday when you have to spend all weekend in limbo. Hopefully it will be good news, were the MDT team discussing if surgery was possible? Maybe they think it is which would be a positive? Xx

  • Hi Scarlett. He had liver surgery in April and on 22 June high anterior resection. I personally think it is early that she needs to see him so quickly. I have just tried and cut one the high hedges as he won’t get anyone in to do it. They are all in a mess and there is no way I can do it. He said leave it, gosh I am so bloody frustrated with all of this but hey ho we have to carry on xx
