Hi everyone

I'm Steph from the Community team Slight smile

Here is a new thread for carers, family and friends. This is a space for you to chat, share experiences and support each other through issues related to your loved ones bowel cancer.  The previous thread will shortly be locked as it was getting rather long which can make it difficult to navigate.

Please remember that we also have other dedicated spaces on the Community for carers, family and friends. These spaces exist so you can support each other away from members of the forum who might be dealing with their own cancer diagnosis:

Family and friends forum

Carers only forum

Supporting someone with incurable cancer forum

You would be welcome to set up another new thread like this in one of the above forums. Please just let us know if you would like any help?

We hope you will continue to find lots of support from each other and the Community. We're here to help, so please do let us know if you have any questions or support needs by emailing us at community@macmillan.org.uk

  • Hi Helen lovely to hear from you hope you are ok Happy Birthday to Kevin I'm sure you will be raising a glass later of course he should still be here life is so cruel. Sounds like you have been really busy sorting out Paul's home you mush be ready to get the sun on your bones and relax in Italy enjoy hugs to you xx

  • Hi Everyone!

Again, I wish I could send you all some words of encouragement with what you are going through. Maggie & JKee I send you both love and strength with the upcoming results for Les and Simon. Hope something positive comes out of both. Had wee Myla this morning again for a couple of hours. William was doing a Saturday shift and Nicole working too. William came to pick up Myla just at 12 as she was going to a birthday party today. I was at theirs yesterday as well looking after her as William and Nicole had an appointment with their wedding planner so its been well overtime with the granny duties this week. Happy Birthday to Kevin Torry I know what you mean. Jay would have been 70 this year it would have been his 70th back in February. Well that's us into June and almost the first half of the year gone. I'm ok just now but don't know how I'll be in the next couple of weeks. Just try to put it to the back of my mind just now. The sun is out at least so maybe go out and catch some `rays` as they say later on. Take Care Everyone sending you all hugs, love and strength.

    Vicky xx

  • Hi jkee we are all with you as well.  It seems as though Les and Simon have appointments and scans at the same time. Like you I am not expecting good news with them mentioning radiotherapy. Have you read the daily mail about the new trials. Les is taking a copy when he sees the surgeon next week. Mind it is only a trial but it could be a breakthrough in a few years.  I know what you mean when you say they are looking better but each day is different as you know and if I say he looks okay then the next day he looks dreadful.

thank you and huge hugs to everyone xx

  • Hi Vicky and Helen.

vicky as I said before just coming on and still supporting us on here is great. I hope you get through this month and raise a glass for jay. You are so strong.

helen just relax and enjoy you deserve to. Raise a glass for kevin.

i am thinking of you all during these hard times. Stay strong ladies and look after yourselves.

sending huge hugs to everyone xxx

  • Hi Maggie

I think that thing you spoke about about the clinical trials for cancer has been on the TV news as well. Would be great if your Les or Jkee's Simon could get considered for something like that. I asked about Jay trying something like that but it was just a flat `no`. Maybe you both will get lucky there be a good thing if it actually happens. Take Care.

    Vicky xx

  • Hi Vicky. I think it would depend on where you live but Les is going to ask about it next Wednesday when he sees the bowel surgeon but not sure why we are seeing her at the moment as his MRI is on Tuesday therefore it will probably be to tell him that it will be radiotherapy.  I am getting all worked up about it as it is getting nearer. I will have to be strong for him. Xx

  • Hi all. Hope you are coping. Les had his MRI yesterday and saw the bowel surgeon today. They are going to let him know on Friday after the mdt tomorrow to see if it is chemo, radiotherapy or op. Another wait and I have come down with a heavy cold with all the stress.

    Jkee how are you coping.

    how is everyone else coping.

    big hugs to all xx

  • Hi we are waiting for results from the mdt team from the Cancers they removed should be tomorrow gosh it been difficult very slow recovery lots of questions to ask but depending what they say do we have a future or not a few weeks ago they gave him a few months . Bless you I know of at least 5 people with this heavy colds I hope you start to feel better soon fingers cross for Friday the wait is awful isn't it hugs to you xx

  • Jkee fingers crossed you have some good news. I agree that is the worst. I will wait to hear from if you are ready to let us know either way.

god bless you all xx xx

  • Thinking of both you lovely ladies and I pray you get good outcomes. Has anyone looked into the new bowel cancer vaccine? Is it just for patients with NED to prevent recurrence? I will ask at the hospital when we attend for chemo on Monday xx
