Hi everyone

I'm Steph from the Community team Slight smile

Here is a new thread for carers, family and friends. This is a space for you to chat, share experiences and support each other through issues related to your loved ones bowel cancer.  The previous thread will shortly be locked as it was getting rather long which can make it difficult to navigate.

Please remember that we also have other dedicated spaces on the Community for carers, family and friends. These spaces exist so you can support each other away from members of the forum who might be dealing with their own cancer diagnosis:

Family and friends forum

Carers only forum

Supporting someone with incurable cancer forum

You would be welcome to set up another new thread like this in one of the above forums. Please just let us know if you would like any help?

We hope you will continue to find lots of support from each other and the Community. We're here to help, so please do let us know if you have any questions or support needs by emailing us at community@macmillan.org.uk

  • Hi Maggie it is difficult isn't it I feel on edge daily any little comment sets me off feel for both of you it is hard for Les is doing amazing and yourself no easy answer I think men just don't know how to communicate Simon has also found out this week he has skin Cancer hey why not just add to the other hopefully it is just on the surface so treating for couple of months with cream he has blood tomorrow to see if his  CEA markers are rising please please I hope not just flat at the moment on a better note puppy getting better love to you all as always xx

  • Hi Vicky a good pat on the back you are amazing all of you that have lost your loving husbands you have shown such courage love to you all xxx

  • I will be thinking of you both tomorrow. Fingers crossed for his bloods.  So sorry he has skin cancer too boot that is another thing for you to worry about. Glad the puppy is behaving as well.  I have been very flat especially when you see couples etc and know now our lives have totally changed. His feet are the worst and hurt. He gets dreadful trapped wind so does not sleep that good. Oh well we all just have to get on and deal with it in our own ways.  As always love to everyone maggie

  • It’s so sad having to deal with all this while everyone else just gets in with their lives. so sorry to hear about skin cancer as if there’s not enough to deal with.

I just dip in and out of this forum now but pleased to read about everyone and it helps me still. Don’t know when things are supposed to get a bit easier but there are some days better than others- nights are cutting in now and not looking forward to dark nights and people starting to mention Xmas. I can’t bear to think about it.

    Take care ladies

    Helen x

  • Helen personally I think we are all dreading Christmas this year, I know I am. It is lovely to hear what you get up to as well. The dark nights I can’t stand as it will be like being locked in. I know you will get through it one way or another with your family beside you. The two small grandchildren came today for an hour and now has gone to bed as he is cold and shattered. We will get through with all the support we have on here. I am trying to find a tradesman who will replace the damp proof course and no one will do it the old fashioned way only by injection and Les won’t have that. I have tried and tried but no one.  Oh well at least we have a roof over our heads.  Love to all.  Maggie xx

  • Trying not to think about Christmas this year. It will happen but will probably be very low key.

  • Well got the phone call from cololectoral nurse re the MDT meeting today. Margaret and I have to meet with her and MsDorrance (Jays surgeon) this coming Tuesday. Obviously they can't tell you anything much over the phone but the nurse did say that there is a tumour there but couldn't elaborate and said that we need to hear about it from the surgeon. What she could tell me though was, that Margaret's colonoscopy went ok and they got the camera thing right round and there were no blockages so that sounds like a positive. So hopefully as I said, it may be something they have caught very early again and get it out ASAP and she won't need to go through the hell that Jay did. Sending big huge hugs to you all. Jkee so sorry to hear about Simon's skin cancer just another thing to add to your misery. I hope they can at least do something for that. Take Care All.

    Vicky xx

  • Vicky I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Try and keep your chin up until next week.  Just can’t believe more bad news. Heartfelt hugs to everyone xx Maggie

  • Thanks Maggie! x.  It is what it is, but at least I feel this time I am more prepared than the last time with Jay/ Although still hard to comprehend it's happening again for some weird reason I feel that bit calmer this time. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

    xx

  • Hi Vicky think it's like nothing shocks us anymore and you know what to ask demand for your sister hopefully sounds like they have caught it early which we all know makes a massive difference in outcome hugs to you as always xx
