Hi everyone
I'm Steph from the Community team
Here is a new thread for carers, family and friends. This is a space for you to chat, share experiences and support each other through issues related to your loved ones bowel cancer. The previous thread will shortly be locked as it was getting rather long which can make it difficult to navigate.
Please remember that we also have other dedicated spaces on the Community for carers, family and friends. These spaces exist so you can support each other away from members of the forum who might be dealing with their own cancer diagnosis:
Supporting someone with incurable cancer forum
You would be welcome to set up another new thread like this in one of the above forums. Please just let us know if you would like any help?
We hope you will continue to find lots of support from each other and the Community. We're here to help, so please do let us know if you have any questions or support needs by emailing us at community@macmillan.org.uk
So, Margaret not getting her surgery this Friday now. They have sent her home as she got her CT scan and there will be an MDT meeting this Thursday to decide the next steps so she's just stopping here with me for the next couple of days to get herself together again. Margaret said something about them taking more scans but don't know about that. Spoke to colectoral nurse Stephanie today and she said that once they have the MDT meeting she will phone me back and let me know and it will be a case of her going in to meet MS Dorrance she was Jay's surgeon so just need to wait until Thursday to see what happens. Hope Pauline's day went ok. Take Care Everyone.

How annoying that you have to wait for everything these days. Good that she has been sent home but more for you to deal with. So just have to wait till Thursday to find out next step.
on a brighter note I went for a sunrise dip in the sea yesterday with Sally and a couple of others. To say the least it wasn’t something I ever thought of doing but enjoyed it. She is certainly keeping me going doing things out of my comfort zone.
Hope all have gone as well as can be expected for Pauline today.

Thank you so much everyone for your good wishes for Barry’s celebration of life yesterday, I was really touched that you all thought of me.
What can I say, it was a really wonderful send off. About 60 people came, family, friends and people who Barry had not seen in 30 years. As it was not a ‘funeral’ in the normal sense of the word our grandchildren came (aged 3, 5, 6 and 11). It was lovely for people to meet them and it really lightened the mood having them there. My son said some words about his dad and then Barry’s brother filled in about his younger life. He finished with a toast to me saying I was the best thing that had happened to his brother. Then my daughter in law said some words on behalf of the grandchildren. The venue surprised me with how lovely they had laid out the room, everything was perfect. The only downside was I wished I had worn more comfortable shoes so as you can see everything was perfect. Several people said to me how nice it was and they will give some serious thought to doing the same thing.
I had had a call from Pure Cremation who were handling the actual cremation on Friday to say that the actual cremation was coincidentally to be yesterday as well. I have to say they have been very caring, been in touch with me to tell me what stage things are at several times along Barry’s journey and will be delivering Barry’s ashes back in person in a few days. I would highly recommend them.
Thank you all again for caring about me, this really is a supportive group which I am so glad I found. If it is ok I will continue to look in from time to time even though my journey has come to a sad end. I have had a catch up on your posts and my thoughts are with you all. Please stay strong and those that are lucky enough to still have their loved ones cherish every day as things can change in a heartbeat.
love to all

Pauline we are all at different stages with our loved ones and I will speak for all please come back. Vicky and Helen always keep us up to date and support us as well. I am so pleased it went well. Something to really think about apart from your shoes.
helen swimming in the sea. No chance for me the cold would be too much. I cannot believe how much you are going out of your comfort zone. Well done.
vicky I hope all goes well. Where is the tumour and is it it a tumour. Our Or friend had a procedure called the TAMIS at the top of his bowel and he was brilliant after it.
Jkee hope all is not too bad and you are coping
the last few days i have been feeling really down. Les walking like an old man and a little cranky with me. Today another day. Going to get ready and start work (at home) that will keep me busy. Hugs to everyone maggie xx
Hi Pauline! Glad everything went well for you and all was expected and more. William was going to get up and say a few things about his dad at the crematorium but felt he couldn't in the end and I resepected that so the celebrant read out his wee eulogy. Yes stay on here and support other like I still like to do even Jay has gone now but then again I have this `incoming` with my sister too now but just hope it's not as bad as what Jay went through. Take Care.

Don't know if it is a tumour Maggie but as they are having an MDT meeting tomorrow to discuss Margaret's case I am assuming it is. Stephanie the cololectroal nurse said she will phone me once the meeting is over and make arrangements for Margaret to see the surgeon Ms Dorrance soon so I am taking it whatever is there they think they can get it before it goes further. Won't know what is happening until we have a sit down face to face meeting with them both which hopefully won't be too long away. It could well be that thing TAMIS you're talking about just hope whatever it is they have caught it early as they did with ber breast cancer 4 years ago and she won't have to go through the same hell as Jay did. Take Care All sending Hugs.

So I achieved another `first` today without Jay and got the car through it's service and MOT and what needed done wasn't much so the cost wasn't too painful either. `Spoke` to Jay after I got the car back and told him I got it through ok which I am sure he would have been watching from somewhere around. William is telling me to `shop around` for things like this but this guy that has done Jay's MOT's every year he trusted him and he would always tell you if anything needed done and give you no `flannel` he phoned me the this morning and told me what needed done a rear tracker rod and I said yes go ahead and he gave me the price and I had more than enough put by for it. So I'm giving myself little pats on the back when I acheive these things on my own that was always Jay's department.

Hi Vicky. Les is having trouble with dark thoughts and taking it out on me. I had to tell him yesterday I could not take anymore. The chemo is making him a little confused and totally exhausted. I try and support as much as I can but I told him since he is on his 9th session he is doing marvellous considering. Find out on the 6 sept by telephone consult about the mri. I said since it is a telephone consult it can’t be bad news. You are doing so well Vicky just like Helen and Pauline. My thoughts are with you for your sister and fingers crossed.
Jkee I hope you are okay and coping with Simon and puppy.
it is a bit early in the morning bath huge hugs to all love Maggie xx
