Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with a soft food diet due to blockage of the stomach because of cancer progression. My partners mother is sadly on her last few monthsand she can only eat very soft food. We want to make her last few months as palatable as possible, as this is a really big aspect of their family time. I was hoping that people on this forum could provide any suggestions to alternative meals that arn’t to different to the original (bearing in mind she has an iliostomy/ stoma bag). So she can also feel included in the family meal like she always was. We have had a brain storm and thought of a few things, such as fish curry (since it’s a bit softer), snacks for texture such as quavers and skipps, fish pies, cottage pie and lasagne (without the pasta) and all blended, but with mash making it appear more appealing etc. We’ve mainly had idea for deserts such as cheese cake without the base, trifle without the fruit and lemon meringue without the pastry. But are struggling with more savoury meal time foods. Any suggestions would be really helpful!
Thank you in advance
Hi Anna8harps
I am moved by your question here, really lovely caring thread I am sorry that you’re going through this but hope that you have lots of ideas
Now I had an Ileostomy so the diet was similar to you’ve mentioned.
Mustard mash with real butter is lovely. I still enjoy that now.
I was good with white fish. Salmon was a no no
I enjoyed white bread real salted butter, mayonnaise and fish fingers half a sandwich was enough Home made spaghetti bolognaise with finely grated veg or over cooked soft veg
Three root mash another fav with grated cheese I ate corn beef as well it was easy to process which didn’t cause any issues
Ice cream sponge puddings with custard or cream or both. Meringue melts easily
Have lovely meals together
Sending you a hug
