Hi all, thank you for accepting me. My husband has been diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. At present I am not accepting it, it makes me feel sick, panicky, shaky etc. it was a complete shock. Anybody else in the same situation. Many thanks

Hi Distraught
If you're looking for easy low residue/low fibre receipes, i found simple risottos a godsend. Lightly fry chicken pieces (and a little onion if tolerated) in deep saucepan, then throw in (in one go) a little root veg, white rice and stock .... and just leave to simmer for 20-30 mins. All you need to do is stir a couple of times.
I water down my stock so it is 3 x volume of rice volume. This way you can throw it all in, in one go and leave it to itself till it's ready.
Easy to cook and generally well tolerated by sensitive bowels.

Hi Horseygirl1
I found this pathway document from Bowel Cancer UK a gidsend for learning the basics when I was diagnosed last year:

Hope it helps you on your info quest.

So sad for your dreadful news. My hubby has just had his second lot of chemo and it is wiping him out. Court that is a fab story and very encouraging. I wanted to ring the nurse yesterday as he slept most of the day which is not like him. I even cooked corn beef hash which was nice and soft. He went in the other bedroom last night but I still heard him get up. Let us all pray for a better day today. Court thank you for sharing. Horseygirl just come and rant on here as we are all in the same boat and our feelings are the same. Big hugs and love to everyone. Maggie x
Thank you toast. I am a dreadful cook. I am going to look for a book with recepies in. Wish I could cook. Spelt that wrong. Wishing you all a better day again. Thinking of you all x
I hope your husband starts to feel better today, maybe the sleep will do him good. I hate the waiting for appointments l, just wish we could see them today and get it started. I'm glad I've found this group so early on in our journey, a rant with people who understand can really help!
Court-your experience with your mum is amazing and does give me more hope. I'm praying that my husband can have the same outcome.
So sorry about your husband, my husband has a stoma and at the moment that is the least of my worries. Hopefully they will be able to help your husband with surgery etc but it’s a terrible time for you all. You will have to be strong especially for your young children - easier said than done. Feel free to rant or say whatever you are feeling on here as I think we are all doing it and realise you are not alone. Sending you a big hug xx

Hi Horseygirl1
This is quite a good information leaflet that goes through the various possibilities. It’s really positive that they are even mentioning surgery at this stage . Hold onto that .
