  • Hello

Welcome to the forum . So sorry to hear about your husband . It gives you such a fright to hear it has spread to another organ , however bowel cancer is a bit more fortunate than some other primaries as it still has a lot of treatment options and surgery is mostly done in the U.K. with curative intent .

They may wish to do some chemotherapy first or they may not but it’s good to know either option can be very good . My mum has had two liver resections, both times she had chemotherapy but she had around five tumours each time . I hope that gives you some encouragement as her last surgery for the liver was back in 2010 and it has remained clear ever since . It’s also the only organ to regenerate and it has function so well since even although it’s an odd shape now .

has also had a liver resection and closer in age to your husband .

There is so much they can do and whilst it’s another unexpected surgery which is hard for them to go through there is lots of living to be done afterwards .

Do you know what segment of the liver is involved ? In the U.K. there are centres of excellence for the liver and the one my mum experienced was so good .

Take the time you need to find your feet together and hopefully the team will be working in the background to get the right clinical pathway for him.

  • Thank you so much no we don’t know we’re it is they didn’t say we live in Ireland xxx

  • Not a problem as long as they have a good plan for him . They will have a surgical team who deal with this as it’s fairly common .

One step at s time .

  • Thanks court he got a liver biopsy last year and they said it was a cyst and then to go to this saying there is a 5cm lesion x

  • Hi , so sorry to hear this setback, it will take a while to sink in, you are probably all over the place at the moment.  I had a liver resection in Nov last year following chemotherapy, It was a major surgery as I had a large tumour burden and some lesions in very tricky spots, but, it was successful and I recovered well.  I hope your husbands team will come up with the way forward very quickly, once a plan is in place you will feel better.

    Take care,  Michelle

  • Thank you they said it was only one leasion

  • That’s very encouraging . It’s such a big organ . My mum has had 73% of her liver removed so lots can be done .

In the link provided Ellen93 ‘s husband only needed 10% removed . There is a big range of options for the surgeon .

Location comes into play but they are very skilled .

  • Dear Kkd.

The words liver and tumour combined to turn my knees to jelly. But as Court so rightly says, this isn’t liver cancer. It’s bowel cancer on the liver and is a very different disease. The treatments available now form quite a long list of options and the specialists have made enormous strides in tackling it. A number of us here can testify to the amazing treatments that are keeping us well even, and I very much hope you will be able to share in our experience.

    Every blessing
