Hello all
I’m new here my Dads been recently diagnosed with bowel cancer and unfortunately already spread to the lining of his omentum (stomach lining) The prognosis is inoperable and incurable he started chemo last Thursday FOLFIRI treatment. He’s had sickness and diarrhoea quite bad and can barely eat he’s lost a stone in weight since this first treatment and is due for the next round on Thursday although he’s saying he doesn’t think he can face it again :( does anyone have any words or experience with this treatment or any words of advice. he’s due to talk to the oncologist tomorrow just wonder if anyone can give me anything I can pass on to him to maybe comfort him at all, thank you in advance xxx
hi Vic 1982, after the bowel ops I was given a fruity milk like drink called Ensure. It replaced electrolytes and was calorific as I'd lost three stone. It was ok as long as just out of the fridge. It helps build you up. After leaving hospital I got these drinks from my pharmacy. They were free as I was a cancer patient. Lucozade Sport was also recommended to me by my Macmillan Nurse to help replace electrolytes. I hope your Dad gets all the help he can.

How’s your dad doing? It’s quite surprising how quickly they bounce back after a few bags of fluid…! My dad in a cycle of 3 months, 3 treatments a month )so 9 chemo sessions) had a third due to low white blood cells and having to cancel treatments. It happens a lot - just gives the body time to recover. The staff will be all over this and will adjust medication and treatment - it’s so good you are keeping such a close eye on him. Any little thing I see in my dad now and it’s a call to check it out.
thinking of you all - such a difficult time - keep strong! Xx
Hi all Dads really not good after 12hrs waiting in A & E he got a bed finally. They got him on fluids and he looked better last night when I visited him. Over night he collapsed and his BP is really low and from a CT scan he has a blockage in the bowel we’re here now waiting for surgery team I don’t know if they will be able to operate where he’s so poorly x thanks for messaging xxx
Poor you you must be so worried about him. I take it they are still giving fluids? Do you know when the team will make the decision? I feel for you as I’m watching my dad deteriorate every day and it’s horrid. I’ll be keeping an eye on this so you know we are all here to support you-even if only over a message. Keep strong and keep positive. If they can, they will. Sending you massive virtual hugs xxx
Thank you for your kind words and messages they have really helped and it’s so nice of you to check in when you have so much going on in your life too x The surgeons been they can’t see an actual blockage but there’s fluid in the bowel. He said he didn’t know what they could do surgery wise and wouldn’t do it with Dads really low blood pressure so basically there’s nothing they can do they have said his kidneys aren’t functioning as well as they should so recommends intensive care dads said he knows it’s the end of the road :(
I really wasn’t expecting this now I left dad at 11.30 last night his BP was higher and they are still giving him fluid my mum has stayed with him. He’s such a lovely man and after going through a major heart attack last April and pulling through he is so strong I just feel heartbroken this has happened x praying for a miracle still sending you my love and thoughts too xxxx
I am so sorry to hear this . Hoping the highly skilled staff in intensive care can support his kidney function and stabilise him . Holding onto Hope .
Hoping they can take some of the pressure off his body like only they can .
Holding you in our hearts and thoughts .
