Hiya

I saw my surgeon today he is going to take away my colon and rectum away and this will leave me with a life long stoma this will remove the whole cancer also will sow up my anus

They are hoping for keyhole or robotic surgery

So appointment with the stoma nurses also first telephone for fitness then to come in for fitness test last appointment see surgeon again sign forms and then the operation

Recovery 5 to 15 days 6 weeks after that more normal life will be 8 hour operation

If it’s open surgery then that could be double length

All a bit scary

Thank you Court, I was a bit on and off but surprisingly slept much better than I thought I would, got a lot still whizzing around, but feeling a bit calmer this morning rather than me writing again you can read my reply to Artie Ann

  • Of course Pippa you only need write once I pick your message up.
it sound like you have been through a lot with your other surgery. However take it from me surgeons love something that’s a little more challenging. My surgeon was almost bloody excited when my husband asked him. Will you remove it through the rectum. His face lit up and went on to explain how he was going to do it. Very graphic and not what I wanted to hear. Like a builder and plumber talking about a job. It’s funny now and makes me smile. Not so much at the time
    I remember my whirlpool head.
Try and think now that they will get that cancer out. That’s what to concentrate on. It will be out of you.
I hated it in me and I was so relieved that the surgeon was taking it away

Treat yourself to things you might need for hospital or watch  family movies and maybe some mindfulness I found it gave me head space. Anything you feel like doing it’s passing the time when heads whizzing it’s hard.
    take care
