Hiya
I saw my surgeon today he is going to take away my colon and rectum away and this will leave me with a life long stoma this will remove the whole cancer also will sow up my anus
They are hoping for keyhole or robotic surgery
So appointment with the stoma nurses also first telephone for fitness then to come in for fitness test last appointment see surgeon again sign forms and then the operation
Recovery 5 to 15 days 6 weeks after that more normal life will be 8 hour operation
If it’s open surgery then that could be double length
All a bit scary
Hi Pippa
It is very scary and you need a little time to process the operation.
Did they give you a date for your operation?
I had a different operation a LAR which some have robot or keyhole. I had keyhole then incision which was invasive.
I was up next day and walking with attachments and I walked out day five.
It’s individual and see how it goes.
It’s such good news that cancer is out and in a bin.
Take care.
Ann
thank you
I am trying to focusing on the cancer in the Bin bit, but the poor surgeon to has a few challenges about 6 years ago I had a huge stomach operation, and the surgeon put in a double mess which makes the surgery slightly more complex because as I had already major surgery in that area he was telling me that sometimes this makes organ a bit sticky together, which mean access is much more difficult. He has sent for the sugary notes from Mr Zack to firstly find out exactly where the mesh is and what parts he moved around I do remember him telling me my bowel is a slightly different position. It was such a large odd they filmed it for training reasons.
so this is playing on my mind a bit and will not be sure how it will effect my operation until he gets all the information from Mr Zack
thank you again you guys have made this so much more bearable I have a super friend who listen but, not to take anything away from her but I can put my hopes, fears, anxiety, with out a filter knowing I get both good information and support, because we are all in the same boat and you guys have been through all very similar feeling and fears
