Today I had to do more cardio tests after I was told at the previous one “oh they won’t like this” Blurting things like this at patients doesn’t really fill you with confidence. I know they have to tell you a certain amount but for me it’s overload and sends me to rock bottom again. You people had lifted me quite a lot and I was feeling more optimistic. So I’ve had the bike test and I’m medium risk but near the top end. Perhaps I can up my fitness a bit while I wait for surgery.

  • Hi

Frankly I think that is a reckless thing to say . I hope they clarified what they meant by that !

Let me see if I can get some information on pre op exercise.

I think it’s known as prehabilitation This is St George’s hospital but you could Google your own health authority or ask your team for guidance . Our helpline staff could get you more information. 0808 808 0000

Perhaps a silly comment will give you the opportunity to focus on preparing for surgery to give you the best recovery .

However a little thought goes a long way !

Yes I can, not fast but ok

  •  @poppsie my husband failed fitness test and was put on a prehab4cancer program if you live in Manchester area it is available. If you type in prehab4cancer a link comes up and gives you more details. If your eligible you can sign up.  My husband managed to get from failing the test to smashing it the anethiatist said in 7 weeks, good luck.

  • Hi Poppsie

You are really having a bad time of it. I really think that you deserve to have a proper consultation with the physio before this negative information is given.
Do you have a team member to phone? I’ve found my contact nurses throughout my treatment really helpful knowledgeable and caring. They’ve made sense of the worries I’ve had.
After my diagnosis I had to see the Physio who gave me some tests, advice and exercises to do preop. She adviced me on diet and drinking. I had phone appointments with her up until my operation. When she tested me again

I think you should have the same support.

Can I reply to you all at once please. I’ve not failed my tests, I’m medium risk. However I’m 80 and my surgery is in 2 weeks. I think the best I can do is up my exercise as much as I can, no alcohol ( I only have 9 units a week anyway) and keep eating healthy.

    Thank you all of you

    Pam

    1. Poppsie I’m sorry if you felt I said you failed, I meant my husband had failed. Anyhow wow I was blown away when you said you are 80, and medium risk. You are doing great enjoy Christmas and my best wishes for your surgery x
  • Poppsie

. You go for it   And make sure you save some of those units for Christmas. They wouldn’t do the operation if you weren’t fit. So you’re doing well
