  1. Hi I had my high anterior resection yesterday currently. In hospital.was meant to be laparoscopic but ended up being cut open to get a clearer image of what they were doing. I was told that my tumour was more bulky then expected and was attached to my ureta they cut out everything they could and sent biopsies off to see if any residue was left. I'm so scared that they didn't get it all I'm. 31 and all I keep thinking about is leaving my kids. I have to wait 2 weeks to find out if I need chemo. Does anyone know if chemo. Doesn't work what treatment is there for cancer in the ureta?
  • Hi

Welcome to the forum ! Hope you are being well cared for in hospital !

The pathology will be sent to ensure there is clear margins ! There are many options if that does not occur and most people would have follow up chemotherapy if that is needed !
They will have a good plan for you ! Although the cancer may have imbedded in another organ it’s still a bowel cancer cell so uses the same chemotherapy options ! Bowel cancer is fortunate in that regard as it has quite a few options depending on your cell type !

There are surgeons who do more extensive work too at centres of clinical excellence! Your team would help you navigate that ! Plus there is surgery /chemo treatments like Hipec where they use heated chemo etc ! However although the surgeons have to tell you that please hold onto the fact they think they removed it all ! They take time in theatre to pay special attention to these more complex areas to get those clear margins ! And they think they have achieved that ! These conversations are unsettling but my mum has been through a few ! She has had further surgery to her liver and lung at centres of excellence and still here 12 years later !

Your team will guide you to the best centre if at all required !

Hope you can rest a bit in the knowledge that there are options as your precious children will be delighted to see you and want your undivided attention when you get home !
You come here any time you have those horrible doubts ! We are here for you !

    Take special care ,

Thank you. I will they are treating me very well and managing my pain. I am just suffering with bad trapped wind at the moment there is only so much peppermint tea I can drink. My wounds are healing very well and I've had one of my drains and catheter removed so I'm a bit more mobile now. Im just a nervous wreck about waiting for my biopsi results in 2 weeks I don't think I can't take anymore bad news right now. X

  • You sound as though you are making a great recovery . You will be home soon .
You deserve some good news and I am holding out for it .
Test results are so stressful but they may get them to you sooner than expected and let you recover in peace .

Keep up the good work .
