Trying to live life as normal

Hi it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything on here for my husband’s cancer journey…

we have finally tied our knot in July and spent whole summer in our caravan and travelling places. Have booked a “familymoon” in Mexico in April 2022 as accordingly to my 13 year old that honeymoon doesn’t exist and we have to take our kids abroad with us ha ha!!

had a meeting with our oncologist at beginning of august and she was really pleased with his surgery outcome and no post op chemo is needed. Have to wait for a letter confirming his next ct scan for 3 months time. So for now we are currently living our lives as normal but then what’s normal?!?! He is hoping to return to work in a couple of weeks time on a part time to gradually build up before full time.

am not thinking too much about his next ct scan because worrying about it too much won’t get us nowhere and gonna enjoy life as much as we can really. So finger crossed that his ct scan will be clear.

this is my husband, 2 weeks after his open surgery to remove the cancer in his abdominal cavity… on our wedding day. It’s amazing how he got the strength to continue… and our big day was amazing, he even danced nearly all night! Day to remember entirely.

stay positive xx

  • Thank you Grin it was such a happy day, everyone was laughing. The sun came out when it was supposed to be raining it’s definitely my mums way to let me know she was watching down on us. Just pure happiness al day and night.

im glad it made your day as it is a good feeling to be able to share a positive and happy post.

only thing im concerned about travel insurance for Mexico is it difficult or pricey? Do you know anything about holiday insurance? Xx

  • There is a whole thread on that !
    https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_experiences/travel-insurance-forum

This forum will be able to help you ! Unfortunately I am not allowed as a CC to say the name of the company we used as it could be seen as endorsement but members can and it’s all in there anyway !

A point I noticed it’s best to have all the medical information on hand before starting. A lot can be done online and whilst lengthy can be very good ! I also got a quote early on just to see if it was possible then booked nearer the time . The company we used I heard was not taking quotes over covid but hopefully that will change !

    Exciting times !

  • Aww  What a lovely post to wake up to - I feel quite emotional! You sound to have had an amazing day and as for your hubby - what a superstar. The plan to carry on as normal is a great idea - it’s easy to live from scan to scan to blood test etc. but it just stops you living in the moment and enjoying life - and as you say, worrying won’t change the outcome.

I think I used Insurancewith when I went abroad durung treatment. I googled (See no evil) travel insurance for cancer patients and then went through the money supermarket link as it covered lots of different companies and you could change the excess etc. As Court says I think some of them aren’t even doing quotes at the moment but hopefully things will have settled down by next year although it’s better to get cover sooner than later

Onwards and upwards lovely lady and please keep in touch with us all

    Take care
