I am nearing the end of my first course of chemo.Currently three days to second round, however,I am hoping it will be delayed as I am not coping well and cannot see myself coping with seven more courses. First few days not too bad but throughout have constipation and diarrhoea. However, cooking smells make me nauseous and eating is huge effort. As soon as I eat, i get heart burn with a pain in my sterum  and then I get trapped wind and the pain just debiltates me. I know I am supposed to walk as that helps but when doubled over in pain,   I cannot even get out of bed.

I now take Busgopan but have not had great results yet. In the past I used to suffer from IBS and also have a haitus hernia that were well managed by my diet, but the chemo has ruined all that.Does anyone have similar and can suggest a remedy?

Hi Bluebell, this is first morning I have started to feel vaguely better. Fatigue and abdo cramps worst....regularly taking buscopan now which is helping bit but think it will only really ease up properly when have a break from chemo which hopefully is now going to happen. Awaiting scans to determine state of play and next course of action. Must admit this course has flattened me slightly but should improve now for a bit. Hope youre managing ok, best wishes x

Afternoon Catsski, sorry for delay in replying just starting to pick up. Last session for now last friday, scans etc to come to plan next step. Buscopan def helps. Looking forward to getting out for some little walks and getting strength up. I usually wake at 5 too the birds are so loud! Keep going the meds can really help and enable you to function and the side effects I find can vary so much it is always best to keep an open mind. Take care x

  • Hi Landgirl88, I am pleased to hear that your strength is improving. It's the fatigue that gets me the most. I am so weak now as a result of the chemotherapy.  My oncologist has decided to reduce my dose because for around 5 days I am unable to really do anything.  I have another 9 rounds to go!!

Please do let me know how your scans go.

    Praying and thinking of you.

    From

    Nicola.
