Hi,

im starting my 3 week of RAPIDO treatment (28 days, Monday to Friday of chemo(pills/radio)).

ive been told by all my doctor that at the 3rd week I’ll be feeling rely bad, anybody that it has had this treatment could share how was it with me?

thanks a lot!!

  • Hi . I’ve not heard it called that before but I did have 5 weeks chemoradiotherapy before my surgery. There can be side effects which may start towards the end of treatment like diarrhoea or sore skin around the area being treated. I used the cream that they gave me on the area being treated every day and luckily didn’t suffer with diarrhoea although I’d been given loperamide and diarolyte just in case.
I travelled by car, train and bus to my appointments then went in to work afterwards - I’m not superwoman but just wanted to show that it’s definately doable!

Hopefully some of the others who’ve been treated more recently will be along but everyone has a different experience so please don’t assume the worse!  are you able to help please?

    Take care

I’m in my 3 week now I’m feeling like if an elephant has passed over me twice.

    have a nice day

  • MHi Martina3, hello I had 25 fractions what I was told it was chemo radiation, I took 10 chemo tablets a day and then went for radiotheraphy. Before you start treatment they will put you on a pet scanner or ct scanner. They will position you which and take measurements an tiny tattoos are put on so they know what part to aim for. If you can empty your bowel that would be good because i had to be scanned again because I couldn’t get a good enough picture. You empty your badder, then they tell you how much to drink, so that’s how much you drink every time you go for your treatment. You have to wait 40 minutes after the water, they gave me a hospital apron any you take it in every time you go to get change into. You go in and they go by the measurements and position you then the scanner goes around then you done. I was given anti sickness and diarrhoea tablets. I never needed the diarrhoea tablets but I needed the anti sickness  ones, if they don’t wrk they will give you an alternative. I know that some people sail through it, I rally hope you are one of them . The trouble with I suffer terrible anxiety so I don’t know if it was the treatment or the anxiety. It’s just the going in everyday and the waiting. When you finish treatment you WAIT again two to three months to get a clear scan because the treatment clouds the area. I

I’m sorry you are goingt through this so I’m sending best wishes and lots of hugs. Hope this post is understandable, I haven’t got my glasses. Let us know how you get on. Nelly1955 xx

  • ,xHello Karen 62 hope you are well

  • Hi Martina3 sorry about last post. Didn’t realise you were on week 3! I did a lot of dry wrenching but no diarrhoea. I notice that I had a clear mucus when I went o the loo they said that was normal. I do think as time went on it was harder but I just  like everyone wanted it too finish, I had a sheet and the end of the week they would write down the next week times. I would tick them off. You never think it’s going to end but it doesThamk God,I spent my 65 th birthday in there. and COVID.. take care  Nelly 1955 x

  • HI

There was a clinical trial for Rapido from what I can read . It was defined as the following .

Rectal and cancer preoperative induction therapy followed by dedicated operation . ( Rapido) This was 28 days of radiotherapy  . Then cycles of Capox or Folfox 4 depending on the hospital’s preference.
The chemo radiation is having your dose of cap tablets twice daily at the same time you have your daily radiation not separately. Are you having them separately or together ?

I have to say I had noticed some people mentioning having chemo and radiation separately but had wondered why ! Maybe a new development as I see the research is quite recent !

It might just clarify things for other posters . Nothing is coming up on Macmillan / bowel cancer U.K. .

Things are progressing all the time .
Hope you feel better soon .

  • Hi court I’m having both at the shame time from Monday to Friday. Followed by surgery, the medical comité didn’t want me to have RAPIDO treatment but my gastroenterologist, my surgeon and my oncologist pushed for it. In my case reduce the chance to have cancer back in only 2%

  • Hi Nelly1955, yes I’m in my 3 week. Thanks for you previous post anyway, but I don’t understand that you have to empty your bladder first to wait 40 min to get it full. In my case I’m drinking water in the morning, then I go to the toilet 1 hour before my treatment so drink again but the time I arrive to the hospital I’m ready to have radiation.

as my 49 bday I have as a present cancer diagnosis Persevere I’ve told my husband for my 50th I want a diamonds bracelet JoyJoyJoyJoy

  • Hi Martina , I was just told that I had to have the same amount of water that I had at the simulation which for me was 4 cups of water. It doesn’t sound much , I wanted to drink as quick as possible because they would come out and asked what time had I finished drinking. Also what that was for I don’t know.  Also I want to wish you a happy birthday. I hope you are dripping in diamonds on your 50th. Thought I was going to do for my 65th birthday what I did for my 60th, that was a party bus around London. Karaoke, poor drivers ears. Well COVID put that one off wouldn’t have felt like that any way after radiotheraphy. Sending best wishes xx

  • Ask for two  then if he scales back a bit you still end up with one !Rofl
