I've been to see a surgeon this morning who told me that the cancer I have is inoperable, it called Gist which I haven't heard of, so it's a case of keeping the cancer at bay and in control with chemo called glivec but no actual cure
I'm gutted I was hoping he'd tell me me he could just whip it out but it wasn't to be, has anyone got experience with this?

Hi ShazzE and I’m sorry that the news was not better for you? It sounds to be quite a rare stomach cancer and I did find a few posts on the stomach cancer board although none very recent. I typed gist into the search box and changed the criteria to advanced search which brought up a few old posts one of which mentioned a couple of sites you might like to have a look at?

Sorry I can’t be much help but really hope that the chemo is able to keep it at bay indefinitely and you can carry on with your life
Take care

Hi ShazzE
What a difficult morning for you and it will take time to find your feet . I think we all feel surgery to be a good solution when they suggest a different approach it feels as though a solution slipped of the table .
I too was gutted when they said my mum was not operable and I ended up at my GPS as I was so sad she had not had that opportunity. However he really encouraged me and I started to view it as the best option for her . With hindsight I can see it actually played a big part in opening up other options .
I had to look it up too ! It sounds slow growing . I do think it takes a lot of time to get used to dealing with it like a chronic condition . I think I remember someone presenting with it in the rectal area as the lady in hospital with my mum had a sarcoma tumour and I always think of her when I read it !
Hope your getting well taken care of tonight and maybe in the days to come to can start to work through this change of approach. Whilst not curable it is treatable. I don’t think they will ever mention cured to my mum but they have been great at scanning and keeping a close eye on her over the years .
Take special care ,
