Hi
i was told in February that I have a recurrence of the stage 4 colon cancer with a new resectionable metastasis. I’m now going under the knife on 13th may
as I need to isolate for 2 weeks prior to this, I need to explain to my class pupils (some rather sensitive souls) why I am not going to be in school until the last couple of weeks of term. I’m thinking tell the truth in simple terms. I’ve got a lump and need to have it taken out.
Any ideas anyone?
thanks
Hi
Just want to say I am delighted you are operable and a good treatment solution.
What a wonderful thoughtful teacher your pupils are fortunate to have you . I went down the road of problematic cells that needed a bit of help from the doctors too!
Have a good day !

Hi Rosemary,
I work in a special school age 11-16. I was transparent with my pupils and related it in a way that was manageable for them. I think it can be difficult for young people when we as adults they trust just "disappear" without any explanation and then they feel let down. Ultimately it's your choice and what you feel comfortable with.
Hope that helps
Martin
Thanks for that. Yes. Something needs to be explained I reckon, with quite a lot of positivity! Cancer has and will affect most of them or someone close at some point in their lives so could be a learning curve in a way. Hope you’re well.
Rose
