Liver still inoperable

Hi all,

just had a call from my Oncologist following my scan after 9 cycles of Folforinox.  She said it is still shrinking but the position of one of the tumours is too close to the vein that drains blood from the liver so at this stage the liver surgeon has said he still can’t operate.  My Oncologist is going to try to explore another drug to be given in addition to my current treatment in an attempt to get it away from the vein and continue to shrink.

Feeling grateful it’s still going in the right direction, and as long as there is still hope, I will continue.  Just wondered if anyone has some good outcomes having been in a similar position?

Thanks all,

Michelle

  • Hi

My mum had one the second year that abutted a vein and required to shrink it away . We were told the liver did not require too big a margin like the bowel so with sufficient shrinkage she made it to surgery .
Your clearly chemo responsive and getting a good result so hopefully going in a good direction and sounds as though that’s what they are hoping for too!
It did actually take a full two years to get to her big surgery and a good solution .

You sound in good spirits and here’s to more shrinkage .

  • Thank you Court, that's so encouraging.  I feel very lucky that the chemo is working and although the side effects are brutal at times, I'm doing all I can to stay healthy and fit in between cycles.  Feel like my Oncologist has faith in me to top up my treatment with a 4th drug.
