My wife was given Dexamethasone 4x2mg tablets last friday.

Since taking them it did increase her appetite but they have given her terrible side efffects.

She cannot concentrate at all.She cant do her knitting, crosswords etc.

She has become very depressed and  argumentative.very aggressive and having terrible dreams.

Surely this  cant be normal?

  • Hi stevho,

UNFORTUNATELY the brain fog / concentration was also a major side effect for me, cupboard doors lying open. Completely forgetting what I was doing or saying in the middle of doing or saying something.. Unable to concentrate on tv or reading... &’yes, irritable too See no evil & VERY emotional in general! (Though it actually hurt my saliva glands & eyes to cry it did feel like a release!) THANKFULLY these symptoms did calm down a bit during the 2nd round (think my body knew what was coming & was a little more used to it perhaps?)

    Hi Suzy.

My wifes on paalative care now,no treatment.

They have prescribed the tablets for everyday.

  • Hi Stevho,

Hopefully the symptoms settle down a bit for her,

Certainly worth discussing with her team to see if things can be tweaked if needs be...

  • Hi

My friend found them really tough . She was on them continually. Really affected her mood !

You might want to talk to her team and see if they need adjusting . It’s tough for sure as you sort one problem but creat another . But they will assist her to fine a better balance between the two .

Hopr your holding on ok as you won’t be used to seeing your wife affected like that .

    Take care ,

    Thanks Court.

i would rather get her off them.

    its not her anymore.

She tried to write a list of 7 items and it took her over an hour.

Shes shouting at me and talking to herself.

This is no good for either of us.

  • Hi

Was it the palliative care team that put her on to it ? Is do I would get straight onto them . I think they would want to know about it .

Your not a complainer so if it’s bad you know it’s time to get help .

    Thinking of you .

    Hi Court.

They told me yesterday to give her 2 tablets instead of 4 then they will review it monday.

Its horrible seeing her like this.Shes not in pain but sleeping all the time. When she does wake up she cant remember things or talks nonsence if you know what i mean.

I mentioned this to the pallative team but they didnt really have an answer. How can i find out if its the medication?

  • Hi . Apologies for jumping in but just wondered if she might have a water infection as this can cause confusion? Maybe you could pop a sample in to the doctors to check? x

    Hi Kareno62.

    I wondered that too.

If she had a water infection wouldnt she feel it when she goes to the loo.isnt it normally a burning sensation?

If that is the symptom i dont think she has a water infection
