    Hi,

I have an ileostomy and I do pass mucus, but not everyday and only a small amount. I just get the feeling that I need the toilet and as soon as it passes out, the feeling has gone. It is a pale putty coloured, and occasionally forms a dry ball. I have heard that some people have to wear protection from the discharge but I have to be honest, although I am not an expert, I haven't heard of anyone spending hours passing it. Does she have pain? I wonder if she has an infection. I think it would be worth maybe giving someone a ring and having a chat. Is your daughter on medication at the moment? Sorry that I cannot be more help.

    Take care xxx

Thankyou for replying she passes it for a few days and then she's ok again till next time she's just on gabapentin at the moment not had chemo for about 6 weeks now as she had a really bad reaction from the covid jab once again thank you for reply xxx

  • Hello KormaNorma, I have had a stoma operation 10 days ago and they explained to me that some people may get some mucus from the bottom, some none and some may need to go to the loo several times a day. Don't worry it is normal and unfortunately for the last 3 days I have discovered that like your daughter, I am one of the last group! No fun ! Tell your daughter not to worry and I hope she gets better soon. I am seeing my oncologist tomorrow, I can't be operated on either, I will know my treatment plan tomorrow, chemo and radiotherapy. With my love  and best wishes to you both, Bri

  • Yes I have an ileostomy and I did but I had surgery 12 weeks ago to remove all my large colon he left my rectum but not passed anything yet had the feeling but nothing.

  • Gosh HazG ! They removed your whole colon! I didn’t think that was possible. Will you have to be on a special diet for the rest of your life?

sorry for asking , I don’t yet know what’s to come for me! So I gather as many info as I can!

    Best wishes xx

  • I had all my large colon removed yes two years ago I had extended right hemicolectomy and 12 weeks ago I had my sigmoid colon removed all I have now is my small bowel and an ileostomy.

  • That sounds drastic, I hope you feel ok ?
