Finished treatment on Friday white blood count low just wondering what the best vitermins to take Thinkingand I hope you are all doing well helen x

  • Hi . There’s been a lot of posts on the Bowel cancer uk Board in the past about low white cell count and there seems to be no miracle vitamin to help. Mine was low when I wasn’t on chemo and I think it’s just 1 of those things that will get better in time now your treatments finished? x

    Hi Boo,

I've had a few chemo sessions deferred recently for a week due low white blood cell count. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. I take bit C, D and selenium which are all beneficial to the immune system. When I had chemo the first time 2 years ago I had no problems but this time around it has been frustrating. All my nurses tell me it's just one of those things that happens with the body. I now have to take filgrastim injections at days 5-9 of a 14 day cycle, but even they don't always boost the count enough.

It seems something we just have to mentally manage and do the best that we can to take care of ourselves physically.

    Best wishes

    Martin

  • Thank you just feel like got no energy hope you are doing well x

  • Hi Bop,

Everything I read seems to be screaming vitamin D

I know I plan on starting something when my treatment finishes too..

ik sure it’s such a relief for you to have your treatment finished Raised hands

Wishing you a fab onward journey to full health,

    Suzy

  • . I was really low on calcium when my treatment all finished and my doctor prescribed me a 2 week mega dose vitamin d. She said it’s the 1 vitamin that she insists all her family takes - just the cheap supermarket stuff. I take it daily now although it was a bit scarce when it was rumoured to help with Coronavirus. I asked at the pharmacy and he got me some from under the counter! x
