  • Hi ,

Oh that’s so hard for you . Our children are so precious. I can get really anxious in consultations and particularly at the beginning I deferred to my sister and my husband . They are like rocks in times of uncertainty and I spend half the time trying to remain upright . My mum describes me as stoic as I can do a fantastic cover up ! However I wanted my mum surrounded with calm people .I also found it difficult to process the information as I was working hard controlling the anxiety.  I did quickly find my feet and have done the majority since then . I am a big believer in playing to your strengths in life . If your husband is less anxious let him take the lead in the first instance but you will be a big player in helping her adjust and process the information she has been given thereafter .

In terms of information I would get the information first then feel my way forward as appropriate. My sons friend had a colostomy as a young teenager . It was important for him to ask his own questions during his consultations . I think it gave him control and he adjusted well .

    Take care ,
