Hello hope you are all doing well has anyone had bad side effects comeing off capecitabine im due to finish mine this week just a bit worried wot could happen take care helen
Bop. Hi Helen and well done on getting to the end of this stage of treatment. I’ve not heard of anyone getting side effects after finishing the tablets. I felt a sense of relief that it was the first stage of treatment ticked off but then there’s quite a long wait until the next scan as the treatment continues to work for several weeks after stopping.
Enjoy the break and try to distract yourself by keeping busy and staying fit and healthy for your next stage
Take care

Hi Bop, I had Capecitabine before my op with the radiotherapy and then after the surgery as Capox. I had no reaction coming off either time just a sense of relief that I didn't have to take them again!!
Best of luck with the next stage, I hope the Cape has done enough to help. All the best John
Hi
I didn't have any side effects after treatment stopped. I was counting down until I took my last dose of treatment, I had expected to feel euphoric but I was shocked that I felt totally overwhelmed for a few days after, just with the emotions of treatment ended.
I'd suggest you may want to plan some self kindness for the next few days after treatment, just something simple like a wee gift, a gratitude journal, spend time with a loved one, a nice dinner or dessert. Congratulate yourself for finishing treatment.
Take care
Thank you for your support yes sounds like a good idea will be strange not having to go to the hospital every day thay have been a life line for me because of my anxiety just having someone to talk take care
Hi Bop, I am on my first cape cycle (Day 5) . I had an anterior resection operation done on Jan 11 this year and even though no spread was detected, doctors advised cape for 6 months. So far, feeling fine. Would be interesting to hear if anyone has suffered with side effects, whilst / during their cycles. Hoping your experience off them is good!
Take care and all the best for the future ahead.
Hi Rose I've been on capecitabine for 4 weeks had no side effects up to now take care ive got to have aper maybe you could tell me how your operation was take care helen x
Hi Bop I
I had keyhole surgery anterior resection on 11th Jan. Was in hospital for 6 nights. The first 3 days were quite tough, physically and mentally. Being unable to walk the first day was quite scary for me. But each day I tried to walk around my room a bit and found if I remained positive, I actually felt better. The doctors discussed my operation to remove the tumour successful.. I also did not need a stoma after. This week, even though I have started chemo, I have never felt better. I finally feel like my full energy levels and strength is back. I go for a long brisk walk each day and have even taken up yoga (beginners!). Hoping all goes well for you. Take care and good luck.
