I went to see my oncologist yesterday she was lovely went through everything with me she said I’m cancer free at the moment but because one lymph node was cancer I’m going to have a mop up chemo.

im having oxaliplatin with fluorouracil 5fu

12 sessions over six months so once a fortnight. I’m going to have a pic line put in so I can have the pump and come home for treatment,

freling very anxious about it all fear of the unknown getting the pic line is going to be the first hurdle Face palm♀️

  • Hi . Firstly, congratulations on being cancer free. Chemo isn’t nice but it’s worth throwing everything you can at the cancer to ensure it stays away.

I had a picc line fitted and it was the best thing I ever did! There were no more sore veins and an arm I couldn’t touch after the iv. They can also take your bloods out of it too. The fitting was totally painless - a tiny nick in your arm after some numbing gel and in it goes - then you have an X-ray to check its in place. You won’t be allowed to get it wet so get a prescription for a limbo arm which is a plastic sleeve with a rubber seal at each end to keep it dry in the shower. I’m afraid there will be no swinging the arm about so no tennis or golf. You may have to attend hospital in between appointments to get the line flushed but the nurses will run through everything with you.

Hope this helps you straddle the first hurdle

    Take care
