Hi Catriona I was in hospital for 9 days, I had a drain that kept draining . My op took about 6 hrs, I think. I was getting out of bed the day after surgery just to sit in a chair and then I started walking around the ward and going for a coffee when I had visitors by about day 4. I didn't drive for about 6weeks but I was back doing Park run after about 7 weeks. Taking it really slow though and then unfortunately after about 3weeks we went into lockdown so I starting walking everywhere.

Hi . I’m probably the wrong person to ask(!) but about 5 days in hospital and the nurses will have to be happy that you can manage the stoma then about 5 weeks at home. I’ve attached a link to the Bowel cancer uk book about the op which has some handy hints on what to take with you and what to expect

Saw my consultant today and my operation is on the 22nd March. I'm so lucky I know that everything is happening so quickly as I was only diagnosed on 16th Feb. The operation is being carried out using robot and am expected to be discharged after 3 days. I won't know if I will need chemo until after the operation but will deal with that if it happens. One step at a time and so far everything has been so efficient. Oh and I got my 2nd vaccine today too.
I walked into hospital at 7.00 on the Wednesday, op about 10.00 - 'hobbled' out Saturday afternoon. One month to the day of the op I drove to our usual parking spot, walked 1klm to Anfield and watched Liverpool destroy West Ham. Nothing to do with me, totally down to the wonderful skills of the colorectal team at Liverpool's Royal hospital.
I was amazed at the speed of recovery. I hope it's the same for you. Waking up and knowing the tumour has been removed is wonderful.

Hi Catriona,
I was very lucky with my op recovery! I had my op on the Wednesday evening 6th January (no stoma) & they let me home on the Friday afternoon. I put this down to the amazing team & lots & lots of reiki energy (self) healing. Originally I had planned to go back to work 6weeks after the op (as per advice) but unfortunately they found 2 out of the 19lymph nodes affected, I’m now on chemo. Hopefully o recover as quickly post chemo. I wish you all the best in your recovery,
suzy
