Consultant has rung back said will give a IV line before signioscopy hasn’t said what he going to use in the line will this be enigh to get the procedure done my anxiety was that bad today I spent morning crying in bed can I ask for a diazapsn tablet from My own doctor to take before I leave home for procedure and thrn get the Iv few hours later
That’s usually given so they can give you the sedition, so looks like they will give you it now.
When you go for your sigmoidoscopy you will be taken to a waiting area where they will check your blood pressure and go through any pre existing health details . You will then be asked to change into some paper pants and gown . The nurse at that point put in the iv line - I didn’t feel a thing . The surgeon then came to collect me and we walked into the theatre room just chatting . There was 2 nurses present . I got on the bed and the surgeon got himself ready asked if I understood etc . The nurse gets you into position whilst the surgeon gets his equipment. At that moment the sedative goes in . I can absolutely honestly say without a lie I couldn’t feel anything . It felt like it was over in seconds . I really hope you can get through this . If you’ve got any other questions please do ask I hope by explaining what happens it might take some of the anxiety away
Thank you so much for your honesty I hope it the sane for me did you get enigh sedation they said I get a small amount and I wouldn’t be staying in recovery with covid I would be fit to walK out after so I hope they give me enigh to get procedure done consultant was very reluctant to give me any but I literally begged for it
I’ve had 2 , the first one was the sigmoidoscopy and was the one where I must of dozed off . The 2nd one was 2 weeks later and a full colonoscopy, this one I couldn’t feel it but was aware of what was going on but I didn’t freak me out . ( I definitely didn’t doze off) .you come round really quickly. The tool me straight to recovery and just took blood pressure again and went through the paperwork . I was given a copy of the report and told a biopsy etc was taken . That took no more than 30 mins .
Yes the surgeon puts the sedative through the iv line . I honestly didn’t feel the insertion . If you feel brave enough you should be able to look at the screen in front of you so you can see what the surgeon can see . Or you might doze off like I did
You are so much stronger than me I haven’t had it done as few years but when I get the letter my memories go back to 20 years previous when I got loads of scopes done and no sedation at all or info on what was happening I got my bowel Finally removed at 15 in Belfast with a loveky surgein and reversed three months later hecsaid I was youngest he done it on and by that times I was put in a adult ward not a children’s area to get it done quicker he now retired and experienced not good since he retired my doctor wants counselling as say I have ptsd I met one of the nurses years after in hoso and she couldn’t believe that I was fifteen getting adult procedures done without any knowledge or sedation so now fear goes with me everywhere
I can completely understand that . The memories don’t go away and it’s a lot to deal with as an adult let alone as a child . I hope you get through it ok . I take it you are having it done before side you are experiencing symptoms? I just knew I needed to go through it to find out what was wrong with me . To be fair I’ve been in and out of host all year so have kind of got used to being prodded and pocked around .
