Liver mets recurrence, need advice please !

It took a couple of years to get all the microdisease in my mums liver to surface and be treated . She had five mets the first year and five the second year . She had more extensive surgery and that resolved it completely . Never had anymore disease in the liver .

They explained that it only takes a couple of cells to break off together . But it did settle down and to be honest it’s not a big spread in terms of tumour burden so please do hold onto what your oncologist is saying . Sounds as though you have a few options too . This will hopefully be all the disease dealt with .

The liver is incredibly robust and regenerates apparently.

Oh you have been through the wars.  Makes my problem seem miniclscule by comparison.  Had first CT scan in July post surgery in January.  Found a hypodensity in segment 4a of the liver which apparently had 'subjectively' grown from 9mm to 13mm since my last a scan in November.   Got told the result on 12th august.  Nothing heard since, despite radiologist recommending MRI liver.  Here's hoping no news is good news that the consultant has no worries.

As I said reading problems like yours really puts my petty problems into perspective.  Keep safe, thinking of you.

So sorry to hear of your news Razy. My husband has mets in one lung, two in the liver and one in the peritoneum. We have been told no surgery for any of the cancer. Has anyone else been in this position and did you get a second opinion?

Hi, and sorry to hear about your husbands Mets. I am not sure why they have said that to your husband but I have been given options for Ablation, radiotherapy and resection options.

Please arrange to see the liver consultants/ surgeons not the Oncologist, so they can review the scan reports. Has your husbands case been discussed at the hospitals MDM and were you informed of the options they had ?

Please chase them as there are many options for treatment now for liver and lung mets

I spoke to my consultant only yesterday and he said I could go for a treatment called MR Linac which I had before for a liver met in Segment 7 in 2025. It was successfully treated and is now clear.

Only a few centers have the treatment and many cancer consultants are not even aware of this technology,  but worth a try

Thank you Razy. We went from a year ago to the oncologist saying we are looking for cure to yesterday when they decided to tell us about the met in the peritoneum! We have been told no surgery from when they discovered the two lung mets - no point now as it has spread! I am going to seek a second opinion as I feel the care for my husband has not been good and no one has ever been totally truthful with us! We have never seen any of the scan reports or giving staging etc. I have everything crossed for you and sending positive thoughts your way.

I had Hipec surgery 5 months ago at Basingstoke hospital as that is the Peritoneum centre in the UK for treatment. 

My procedure went well although it was very tough but 3 month CT scan was clear and dieases was clear in the peritoneum thankfully. 

My surgeon was Dr Tom Cesil at Basingstoke, so speak to your doctor and get them to get you a consultation there, pay for the consultation privately if you have too.

Trust me, there are options but the waiting list on the NHS is huge and they will not look at your husbands case in a hurry. 

Others on this forum will also tell you there are other options if resection is not possible 

Look into Linac if its possible for your husband

You have had really good advice. I have seen people go privately on this forum to have their lung mets ablated and open up other avenues for the other parts of the spread .

Never heard of Linac before and this is amazing to now be reading about it . 15 years of accompanying my mum through her stage 4 diagnosis I learnt it was very important to be researching who was achieving what in each specialty and go directly to them for a consultation. Don’t leave any stone unturned . Star74 went for a private consultation that then changed the minds of the nhs . That taught me a big lesson .
