When I first posted things were still a bit unknown although we were sure it was cancer. Now it is all confirmed Stage 3 rectal cancer. A 4.2cm tumour, mesorectal nodes 2. Had meeting with consultant who was very clear about the plan for me. CT and MRI scans show no spread so although the cancer is stage 3 it has not spread. neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) long course chemoradiotherapy and consolidation chemotherapy, scans and curative surgery. An appointment was made with oncology and that was more scarey don't know what I thought long course meant but finding out it is 5 weeks for 25 days folowed by a break and then 18 weeks of chemo in 3 week cycles certainly bought it home.
The side effects petrify me especially the possible long term effects. I now have dates for planning and tattoo prior to starting treatment and also all the dates for chemoradiotherapy. My Clinical Nurse has just phoned to check out how I was feeling and did I have any questions, so bombarded him, I am very scared of fecal incontinence. He went through the radiotherapy session treatment with me but also told me that my DPD levels are low so they are going to have to reduce the strength of the capecitabine to 50% and keep a close eye on me.
My apologies for this rather rambling disjointed post my mind seems to jump from one thing to another these. Any tips from anyone on what to expect or what helped greatfully recieved. Also does anyone have any tips for looking after a cat, I live alone and my cat is very special /precious to me, he sleeps with me, loves head butts and nudges, he is my boy.
