Ive had full bloods and they came back with iron deficiency Anemia moderate. Initially I thought it was my hemeroids as they bleed quite a lot.

Just got fit test results and have been referred 2ww. Fit Results Quantitative faecal immunochemical test > 400 ug/g; POSITIVE FIT
Refer via Urgent Suspected Cancer LGI pathway.

My old fit test was negative 19 months ago and a sigmoidoscopy didn't find anything. 57 years old.

These results have knocked me for 6. What are the chances of it being cancer with such high results?

Thanks

  • Hi I was the same as you anemia and FIT test >400. 2WW urgent pathway Colonoscopy 13 November 2025 confirmed cancer in Colon. Open surgery on 15 December 2025 and finish mop up Chemo today. I like you had a negative FIT test 2 years previously. It’s been a journey but I do know that 9 out of 10 positive FIT tests are not cancer.  Fingers crossed for you.

  • Are you going to be okay? Where was the cancer in your bowel. I had a sigmoidoscopy 18 months ago and was clear.

  • Yes I am going to be fine currently NED I had colon cancer which was a rare one and KRAS mutated but lucky it was caught at stage 2 so only mop up chemo needed if I wanted it it was my choice which I chose to give it a try. I have tolerated it well. They got all the tumour out with no lymph nodes affected. Now will go onto 5 years monitoring. I did have two polyps removed at the colonoscopy they were OK. I was sure it was just polyps that caused the anemia so got a shock when I saw the cancer on the monitor. I thought my life was over at 62 but no it’s not. The journey has been life changing and an emotional rollacoster but I’m ready to get back on track and embrace my new normal.
