My sibling was diagnosed with a tumour in his bowel just 4 weeks ago after a colonoscopy. Thry then had to wait for a ct scan blood tests but before they got to the consultation with oncologist for treatment plan ended up with a bowel blockage resulting in a stoma bag being placed . However after a further ct scan and appointment in hospital they now say it’s masticiced on thier liver in several places is inoperable and they needs a pic line to start chemotherapy asap They are only 18 months younger than me and I’m absolutely in shock and upset and they are angry and devastated at the same time but determined to fight which I have told them to fight with everything they have.
How can I help with this ? I’ve also been looked at for cancer but I’ve got an endoscopy as I’ve been ill too.
Hi Kath ,
As someone who has a supportive family, I'd say your empathy and kindness will be enough.
If you are able to help with household chores/cooking while your sibling is on chemo that may well help as it can be difficult. Your sibling may also welcome your presence at chemo appointments - I know I like having my family with me as it passes the time. The best thing to do is ask how you can help.
The picc line is fine - I have one in right now and it makes chemo so much easier than being jabbed all the time. Also chemo has been known to make inoperable tumours operable if it can shrink them enough.
Wishing you all the very best.
