Hello . The oncologist I had a meeting with on Wednesday was all I could have wished for in a doctor , patient, clear explanation, factual and answered questions honestly. Upshot is , stage 3 colorectal cancer. Treatment starts on the 15th June , chemotherapy and radiotherapy together ( chemo tablets ) , for 5 weeks then see where we are . 20-40% chance of treatment working and I get cured , someone has to be in the 20-40% , I’d like to think it may be me . Me being me , I didn’t want to discuss any further ahead than that as I find it too overwhelming…..one step at a time . Strangely, my main concern and worry is about getting to the hospital which is about 45 miles away and about an hour and a half drive ……parking is horrendous and stressful as is the cost of it all . Hopefully I’ll be able to use some sort of transport that others say is available through charity etc , we shall see ! Comes to something when you’ve been diagnosed with cancer and all you can think about is how the hell you are getting to the hospital and the cost to have the treatment !

  • Hi  Good to hear that you’re going to get started on zapping that tumour. There are charities/volunteers that can provide hospital transport although there can be a lot of hanging about waiting if there are others in the car. Have a word with the nurses on reception as there are often free parking passes for those who are having daily treatment for a period of time. There may be help towards the cost if travel too - if you ring the support desk in the number below then they should be able to advise you.

Hope it goes well and you are one of the lucky ‘complete response’ number
