Hi. I just thought I’d update as to where I am. My previous posts were a bit grim after the operation, but I got tremendous support so I thought I tell you the good news. I’m 8 weeks out from the surgery and feeling, for the first time in along while that things are improving. I can sat for a couple of hours, such a joy! I’m walking, not yet driving but looking forward to that in the next week or so. I just want to encourage anyone who is feeling down that things do get better and life does return, if not exactly to ‘normal’ to a new normal which is as good if not better because the pesky cancer is gone. Take care all. X
Hi Elijahs nana
It’s really good to read such a positive post, and I’m sure it will be encouraging for others to read you’re doing well.
Although I had a different surgery and it took a long time to recover, I felt that I turned a corner about 8 weeks after my surgery too. It was especially good to be able to sit comfortably again, so I can identify with that!
I hope you’re managing ok with your stoma now-it helps when that settles down and managing it becomes more straightforward.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

Hi Elijahs Nana
Thank you for posting this. I'm currently half way through 5 weeks of chemo radiotherapy to shrink a low rectal cancer before surgery, which I think is likely to be an APR. I had a loop stoma 6 weeks ago in prep for the current treatment and was getting very down about the APR which sounds horrendous. Thank you for giving me some hope that I will get through it all.

Hi Old gardener, I’m now 10 weeks out from the APR and things are really settling down into my ‘new’ normal. Freda, my stoma is performing well, I only need a laxative every other week. Today with the lovely weather I actually managed to sit almost all day which is excellent. As my surgeon said an APR is major surgery, I still get very tired if I try to do too much so still no lifting and plenty of rest BUT life is coming back, enjoying family time, pottering is so much pleasure. You too will find your new normal it will take time but you’ll have plenty of that cos you will have got rid of the pesky cancer
