Hi,

I recently had an emergency right hemicolectomy 4 weeks ago for a contained perforation and suspicious mass. My recovery is going well post op but I'm still waiting for my histology results which were fastracked, but nothings back yet and I'm going out of my mind with worry. Has anyone else had a similar wait?

  • Good morning, Starburst47.

I am Jamie one of the online champions. I see you have not had a reply to your question yet.

I am sorry to hear you are still waiting for your results and I understand this is causing you a lot of worry and anxiety. It's often the waiting for these results which causes many of us anxiety.

I would like to suggest to call your medical team and speak with your surgeon's secretary. They cant give you the results but they can give you some idea on what is happening, or at least may have another contact for you to try and speak to.

Do you have a number for the bowel nurse specialist based at the hospital, they might be able to offer you some support and potentially give you some time frames and when the appointment might be to discuss these results.

I am pleased to hear you are recovering well. Please let us know if you need anything else.

    Take care,

    Jamie

  • Hi

Thank you for taking the time to give your advice. You're right the waiting is definitely the hardest.

I have been in contact with the secretary who said they'd chase the report but still nothing.

Because the surgery was an emergency with no previous known issues I haven't got a bowel CNS as a point of contact. I guess I'll just have to keep trying the secretary every few days & in the meantime try and keep occupied.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer Pray

  • Good morning,

I am pleased you got to speak to someone and they can now chase the results, and have someone to contact in the meantime.

Its still a worrying time and at the moment its like living in limbo too. But fingers crossed you wont be waiting to long now.

Please feel free to reach out for support in and the helpline is also great with additional support to. Sometimes just having a chat can make a difference.

    Take care,

    Jamie

  • Hi Jamie

Thank you again for reaching out, I've just rang the secretary again and she's told me that the results are back and with the surgeon so I'll find out more soon which even though I don't know the outcome just to know it's inhand makes me feel a bit better.

    Thanks again

  • Thank you for the update. I am pleased things have started to move forward. Fingers crossed you will recieve an appointment soon or at least a phone call to discuss them with you.

If you need anything at all, please let us know.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Jamie
