Hi everybody. I’m new here although not new to this cancer! I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer just over 4 years ago. I have had numerous treatments and now the latest is Lonsurf and Avastin. I have started with the Lonsurf but didn’t get the infusion due to high blood pressure. I also ended up, due to delays at Pharmacy, starting the Lonsurf a day later that my schedule. It means I am a day out of synch for my next round. Has anybody had a similar experience and saw it sorted or didn’t it matter. I have also been confused over my blood checks. Do people have bloods checked before each infusion or every 28 days? Thank you for any advice/help given.
Hi Karen, thanks for the reply. I also had the oxaliplatin regime and had blood tests every fortnight or before each infusion. I have to say that the oxa regime was brutal!! Really took its tole on me. This latest regime, Lonsurf and Avastin is hopefully not as bad BUT I was told a couple of weeks ago that I only needed to get blood check every month and I don’t think it’s right. I have an infusion every 2 weeks and feel sure I should have blood checks before each one. I hopefully will find out today. Thanks again.
Hi Scotstoun,
I can confirm my husband is on that treatment, and the blood tests are carried out 48 hours before treatment every other week.
Take care
Hi
my mum is on this regime after having others too ( although not sure yet if this one is doing what it should) but she has had problems getting the tablets on time and was once a week late in starting! She has her bloods the Monday of the week she is having the infusion ( on the Thursday)
she has also been delayed due to low wbcs
Thank all! I have it sorted now! I was in the hospital yesterday and they went through it all with me. Basically I don’t need bloods taken every 2 but once every 28 days. I had my first infusion today and it was pretty straightforward. I have no treatment now until 11th March! So it’s as follows:
infusion of Avastin and
5 days lonsurf tabs-2 days off
5 days tabs- 2 days off.
2weeks off and then start the same again.
Thank you all for your help. I’m sure I’ll be back with questions at a later date!
Does that mean you are only having an infusion of Avastin once every 4 weeks?
My husbands 4 weekly regime is
infusion of Avastin
followed by 5 days of Lonsurf, two days off
5 more days off Lonsurf , two days off
then Avastin infusion only
