I am waiting for radiotherapy to shrink a rectal tumour which is very low down. I have had a bowel movement today and strained. When I wiped I had a few streaks of fresh red blood, is this normal?
Hi TinaB Yes it’s one of the common symptoms of bowel cancer and can be caused by the stool aggravating the tumour as it squeezes past. My chemo radiotherapy shrank the tumour to the extent that the bleeding stopped and my stools became thicker. Try not to strain so keep well hydrated and contact your support nurse if you’re still worried?
Take care
