Feeling very anxious now the date is coming nearer (end of Jan)

I am remaining positive for my husband and trying not to show I’m worried

I can see he’s getting more unsettled and feels he’s wasted resources having radiotherapy and tablets to still have the first outcome surgery

Any tips would be grateful I bought two kylies for the bed keep reading about pregnancy pillows will help with recovery ??

thanks

    1. Hello I have been given the surgery option APR and permanent stoma - I too am very very nervous  and still asking for alternative treatments as I feel this should be a last resort ! did your husband get offered any please ? I have spoken to others online who say yes it’s big but they got through it and recovery is reasonable with the right care and meds xx best wishes Hugging
  • Hi there, my husband had APR surgery in 2023 after achieving a complete response after chemo radiotherapy and further chemo. He had a reoccurrence within 3 months. After the Op, he did have a few complications but now he leads a normal life. He’s 62 and has just left the house to go running this morning. He found irrigation to be a game changer. I hope this message will help lessen the anxiety that I know you will be going through. I have everything crossed for a good outcome for you both. Take care xx

  • Thank you so much for this …

he had treatments first but yes then recurred

thank you my husband is 65 fairly fit walks the dog daily for two miles and was working inbetween chemo and radiotherapy and wants to return after his op for last 12/18 months as has his own business.

the stoma nurse did mention irrigation so that’s an option to discuss

thank you again for your reply x

  • Hello

yes my husband had radiotherapy and chemo tablets was referred to clatterbridge after however was not eligible.

He was diagnosed last May and now having to go to with option 1 but he couldn’t not have not tried other treatments first.

your oncology team will tell u best options and you’ve to look at what works for you.

It’s not an easy road and I’ve found this group fabulous for support.

    Take care x
