Hi

just looking for some hope

my mum has advanced bowel cancer and option was always management - however the first 3 types of treatment have been ineffective and the cancer has progressed. She is now moving onto the 4th treatment option (which is tablets only?)

‘I’m so scared and I am desperate to have some hope and some positive news - it has been bad news over and over and I don’t understand why she hasn’t responded so far and will this just be the same?

please - any support would be so appreciated

  • Hi Annabelle

Very sorry to read your post. I just wanted to reach out as I've been in a very similar situation with my Dad and understand how devastating it all is.

My Dad has advanced bowel cancer too, with extensive spread to his peritoneum. He was diagnosed in Aug 24 and it's been such a ride ever since.

He was inoperable from the beginning. He had chemo, immunotherapy, and then targeted therapy. All of which were ineffective, and all of which brought various horrible side effects. He also had emergency surgery for a stoma in amongst it all and has had several hospital stays with low sodium, blood clot on the lung, rashes etc.

He has recently completed another 6 rounds of chemo and the latest scan has shown the cancer is 'stable' and he won't have any further treatment for 3 months. We had all been expecting the last treatment not to work either, but it must have done something. This has reminded me there is always hope..

The 4th treatment might just be the one that helps your Mum. I hope so..

  • Thank you so much for your reply - that really does give me hope

It is great to hear your dad is stable and I really hope that continues

  • Good, I'm glad.

    Thank you.

Try to take it one day at a time. We almost lost my Dad last Christmas so I really never imagined we would be where we are in this moment..
