I started feeling very ill in October with nausea and extreme diarrhoea. Which then turned to severe abdominal pain a terrible change in bowel habits where I cannot go for nearly a week then cannot get off loo when I do. Having problems eating and lost quite a lot of weight . Dr tested for most things came back relatively normal until I was asked to do a FIT test then my doctor phoned me and said I needed to come up the same day for a follow up. He said my results were back and alarming as blood was found and that I far exceeded the threshold for rapid referral cancer pathway.
Im really worried and I know that my symptoms could be attributed to many other issues but this came as a shock. I’m waiting for my appointment and really dredding it to be fair.
I told my employer I had a referral and immediately got told I have nothing to worry about it’s nothing despite me still struggling with my energy levels nausea and abdominal discomfort
Hi Kath and a warm welcome to the board. Yes there are a lot of things that can cause blood in the stool like diverticulitis, colitis, crohns, ibs but the important things is that it’s investigated. If it does turn out to be bowel cancer then there is a lot of treatment available and lots of us on here have been through it and come out the other side.
It’s a very disappointing response from your employer although they maybe meant well? Hope you get an appointment through soon and please let us know how you get on?
Take care
Karen x
