Hello all , hope everyone is doing ok. I'm just looking for some advice on a side affects I experienced yesterday while have a 5fu push through my port . Halfway through the push I came over all strange like fuzzy head and it felt like my insides were shrinking not a crushing feeling and I had no chest pains. I mentioned it to the nurse who was doing the push and she said " really" I said yes I really don't feel good so I was taken to the side room and my blood pressure was on the high side then a doctor came in and I explained as best I could at this stage my thoughts were getting muddled and I felt awful. They then gave me antihistamine and a steroid and I felt better after about 30min . This was my third folfox infusion and I was fine with the other two. Has anybody else experienced anything similar that you could share, I'm very worried it will happen again next week. Thank you

I had different types of chemotherapy to you and it's always worrying when something happens when you're having treatment. I know the nurses in the oncology unit are always on the ball if you start to feel unwell while having treatment so, if it does happen again, I'm sure you'll be well looked after.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Thanks a million Latchbrook for the reply and I've done the bio x
Hi Teejohn
I has similar (light headed, nauseous, high blood pressure) with 2/6 sessions of FOLFIRINOX. They stopped infusion for 30min till felt better then restarted at lower infusion rate. That did the trick for me
Hi Teejohn
I had a similiar experience on Irinotecan & ralitrexed infusion...felt very peculiar suddenly and fuzzy head. Felt truly awful, was quite alarming in the minute. They stopped the infusion, my heart rate and blood pressure were ok though. They waited about 20min and then restarted infusion but slower. I did not get the same on the next cycle. A senior chemo nurse said to me these 'transitional reactions' can occasionally happen on some chemos - she certainly didn't seem worried about my reaction. I think just remind them when you go in next what happened last time. Fingers crossed your next session is seamless.
Thank you baborie , it makes me feel better knowing others can feel funny to. Yes I told the nurse in my last round (round4) so they gave me a steroid and an antihistamine before they did the 5fu push and the nurse was wonderful she just kept chatting to me during the 5 minute push. And afterwards I felt ok . Thank you and I hope you had a nice Christmas and New year x t
