Hi,
Hope everyone is well
I am seeking some advice x
My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 appendicial cancer which has spread extensively on the peritoneum.
This was after an emergency operation for a perforated appendix in May last year
He was diagnosed in September 24
Initially he was booked in for hipec in October 24 at the christies but after some scans surgeons felt he needed to be on chemo and they would revisit the option of surgery.
I have since then felt it was unfair the option of surgery being taken away
He has had folfiri as first line treatment 6 cycles they said this didnt work then avastin with lonsurf. He tolerated the chemo well but the results weren't what we or the oncologist was expecting.
We did seek a second opinion with basingstoke hospital they felt surgery wasn't an option
Fast forward now they have said it is inoperable and they are starting him on fruquintanib
We went abroad and considered having surgery done but a Surgeon at the christies strongly advised not to as it will have a negative effect on quality of life
My husband is so healthy within himself and we always stayed positive and pray for positive outcomes.
Has anyone had similar journies or your loved ones
He has had blood biopsy where they found mutations but there arent any clinical trials at this time.
He has been without chemo for 4 months now as we were waiting on scans results, then blood biopsy results and not being able to see oncologist.
In total my husband has had 13 cycles of chemo since November 24 to June
Also wondering if anyone has had fruquintanib
Any advice would be sincerely appreciated xx
Hi Ani1234
You and your husband have been through so much .
It’s such a frustrating process at times. Can I ask if your husband had a surgical option abroad ?
I have not actually heard of the chemo he is intending to go on now . But I can understand if chemo is not achieving much why you are consulting with other specialists.
I really feel
for you both . It’s a tough time trying to find what is the best pathway .
Take care ,
